This is a no lose situation for Victor Ortiz. if he surprises people and beats Berto he can instantly be right where Golden Boy wanted him to be before his career stumbled. Excellent matchmaking by GBP. Berto is flat footed and Ortiz is more athletic than most of Berto's previous opponents. Victor can take advantage of that and make this a war. A win by Ortiz puts him in the mix for a very big fight. Same with Berto. One of the more important non big name fights of the year for many different reasons.
I don't know about Berto being tailor made for Ortiz. Ortiz is showing he doesn't like it when it's hot. And Berto will let his hand go and land on Ortiz often. But, regardless of who wins, that will put them closer to the Cintron/Clottey/Williams level. And it's those types of fights they should look at. But we'll get them vs. Matthew Hatton or Mike Jones instead.
Its a toss up fight imo. Ortiz could outbox Berto and eventually KO him, or Berto could KO Ortiz, both have the power to knock the other out, Berto has a poor defense, but is very aggressive at times, Ortiz has a questionable heart.
I agree with everything but the thread title. If Ortiz loses, he can always move back down and seek a marquee fight at 140; which is what's likely to happen.
:roflatsch Ortiz is a Glass Jawed Quitter. The guy could not even beat a Peterson brother convincingly. He is a Golden Boy hype job. Period. I know Berto has been coddled but he is way better than Ortiz. :deal
Pretty much. Really good fight this, and an interesting matchup too... anyone know if a date's been set yet?, I'm definitely going to watch it.
They are just looking for the site right now Dan Rafael reported it was either Atlanta :bbbor Vegas I believe. Would love for the ATL to get it but I doubt it will happen.
ESPN.com and also HBO reported it on their last telecast.. they said April 16th.. Amir Khan vs Paul McCloskey and Andre Berto vs Victor Ortiz... can't give you a link though
I will be there for sure thing is neither guy can sell tickets I assume they would want it in Phillips Arena but it could seat 18k for Boxing the place would be empty they could have it at Center Stage/Earthlink Live which seats over 3,000 for MMA and Boxing.
Apr. 16 is the date.. Can't give you a link.. The closest thing really is boxrec, but that doesn't help much.
