i would say they are evenly damaged, if not moreso for cotto. mayorga did not get beat down the same as cotto. the margarito fight could've ruined anybody, followed by life and death with clottey and a severe cut, then paq for twelve rounds when his incompetent corner should've thrown in the towel after round nine or ten. all this within two years.

there are only so many wars(ko losses) in a fighter. sometimes, one can ruin a fighter(Meldrick, morrison, cooney). two almost always does it(JT,Joppy,Norris, vargas,) and three is almost a sure thing(KP,SRL,chavez, trinidad, tyson).

there are only so many gatti's, holyfields and glencoffee's in boxing.

-1350 for cotto right now is just stupid. one good overhand right and cotto is probably done.

If there is one thing I love about boxing is the unexpected and anything could happen. But then again I just can't see Mayorga knocking Cotto out. The only way Cotto has been defeated and with ** is by an accumulation of punches. He could've finish on his feet on the Manny fight and we all know about Margacheato how long it took him until Cotto call it quits, which by his own admission wasn't hurt but simply tired/fatigue. Mayorga will be dangerous at any moment, but I think he will be more surprise how much of a good boxer Cotto is all around.

In my opinion Cotto dose not take punches well. I'm not saying that he has a week chin. That would be saying he dose not take a punch well. There is a diffrance. Look at his loses. To Pacquiao and Margarito. Both late round stoppage loses. Margarito in the 11th and Pacquiao in the 12th. In both bouts he took a lot of punches before subcoming. He took 267 punches against Margarito in 11 rounds and against Pacquiao in 12 rounds he took 336 punches. While one shot is not going to do much to Cotto. A bunch of them over the fight are going to do a lot.
If Mayorga who has a decent punch 23 of 29 wins have been by stoppage can land throught the fight we just might see an upset.

I'm interested to see at which points and for how long the fight goes outside/inside. Steward accurately assessed that if you move out or in without being careful, that's when Mayorga exploits your vulnerabilities. Jab and move on the outside, but I don't think it will take too long for Cotto to move in and do body/head work. :hat
