Sometimes you read threads on ESB and it's too easy to get sucked into all the negativity about the sport such as negotiations, meaningless titles, bad decisions and so on, but, for all the frustration which comes along with it, I'm always proud to be a fan of the sport. I just watched a video with Michael Katsidis, who is the epitome of a warrior to me, where he said he comes to fight and would be prepared to be stretchered out of the ring - As brutal as this sport can be, the attitude fighters have will always keep passion inside me. For a while, I've been negative about the Klitschko's but I still respect them immensely and they're both terrific, world class fighters who us fans can be proud of seeing each time they step into the ring. It's a pleasure to watch Pacquiao, a fighter I genuinely think is one of the best of all-time, still active and seemingly close to his prime. As frustrating as he can be, watching Mayweather in the ring is a thing of beauty and his style defines the term "The Sweet Science". Proud warriors like Katsidis and Froch, immense punchers like Lemieux and JuanMa, flashy stylists like Gamboa and Martinez - These guys, for all their varying characters, qualities and talents, are the reason I love the sport.

**** the negativity. Boxing is, and always will be, the best sport in the world.

Nice thread. I get really frustrated talking to non-boxing fans about my love for the sport. They really don't appreciate the hardship that boxers put themselves through. I try explaining about all the roadwork, sparring, examining fights, etc that goes on and they still think that boxing is just two guys beating the **** out of each other. I don't think many people understand just how hard it is to throw meaningful punches for 12 seconds, never mind 12 rounds, against someone who has spent the best part of 3 months training to beat the hell out of you. I guess you either get it or you don't.

This is very true, you hear this every now and then: just 2 idiots beating each other up, boxing is boring why not knock him out why wait, boxing is uncivilised etc and more dumb quotes, they dont know about the sweet science:smoke

its a potentially deadly battle of two men ptting skills and wilsl vs each other for money, belts admiration and fame.it reveals people character, and gives nations hope and pride.

nothing more gruelling and brilliant, nothing more exciting than a live fight!.

There are no Greatest Of All Time, but there are plenty of All Time Greats. Tyson is definitely among the top 10.

Oh come on, the whole point of the thread is to celebrate boxers in general. There are enough bull**** threads about who is/isn't an ATG, don't turn this thread into another. . .

The purest sport in the world.
Every thing that it means to be human has been displayed in a boxing ring.

And I sometimes hear boxing is dying. No fckin' way. "The Fighter" just won two Oscars and "Lights" is doing well on TV. Boxers still fascinate the general public and always will :good

I bet you have Vitali in your top 10, and he has never beaten even one ex-champion who is on the ATG list. In fact, in his only attempt, he was stopped by a vicious TKO.

On the other hand, Mike Tyson has faced 3 ATGs during his reign and won one, lost 2. Plus, Tyson is the youngest person to have won the heavyweight championship at 20.

I guess it all depends on how you are keeping score. :yep
