Yes, I know both Martinez and Dzinzurik are southpaws, but stylistically, the match-up is very similar.

A classic matchup of a athletic fighter who can improv (and is fundamentally sound) verse a technically-sound fighter who has a solid jab and good fundamentals.

In the end, Martinez's style usually wins and does it in a slightly more impressive than the fans expect. Martinez is going to throw Dzinzurik off his usual rhythm and frustrate him a bit. Martinez 8-4.

Even though I'm picking Dzin, I must admit thats a pretty good analogy.

And sometimes talent, and improv does overcome technical skills.

I think Martinez fights like Zaghe hands down lefty very fast kind of flashy

but I actually see it more like Taylor Spinks but slightly more exciting

Smaller guy counters and moves making it an ugly fight

but Martinez is busier and uses his size and gifts to edge it out unipressivley but clearly

like an 8-4 or 7-5 at worst

How is Martinez a smaller guy than Dzin?

He's actually 2-3 inches shorter than Dzin. But Martinez does have a bigger frame, so size in this case, is just height.

It doesn't matter that much since Dzin's wingspan isn't that big and Martinez has handled bigger guys in Williams & Pavlik.

Good analogy there, however, Kessler was more proven than Dzin. And Cal worse than Martinez ,, I guess.

Good analogy, but they are SD and SM are both southpaws which I think favors SD because he is more fundamentally sound. Martinez knows how to fight orthodox fighters and knows how to get the way of orthodox fighters punches cause hes got his own rhythm that works against them according to what punches they throw and what direction they are moving. He isnt a great fundamental fighter and against another southpaw, it shows more cause he cant get away with as many things. I think SD will fight a more consistent fight working behind his jab all niight, something that SM didnt have to get by vs. Williams. I think Martinez is gonna have a hard time finding something that works in more than just spots. Sergei UD.

At the end of the day Calzaghe beat Kessler on his superior handspeed not necessarily his style. He actually had to adjust his style a little bit to defeat Kessler. Also, since Kessler is orthodox while SD is a southpaw, it's very different.

but i agree that Martinez will win the fight.

    Yup.

The reason why southpaws enjoy so much success against orthodox boxers is they can hide their followups better. The straight left under the guard for example.

This is Martinez's strength in that his hand speed and combination punching win against slower more mechanical (and easy to hit) targets. Cintron, Williams and Pavlik all fit here.

Dzinziruk doesn't. He fights a very disciplined style behind a very powerful jab. He doesn't allow much of anything through and he is well studied on how to use his height as a weapon.

I would shy away from comparing this to Calzaghe-Kessler. For the sheer fact that Kessler defensively is not the same as Dzinziruk. Kessler is more willing to stand ground and trade. Dzinziruk doesn't take many chances. That and I think Kessler was just an intelligent pressure fighter. An extraordinary pressure fighter. Martinez is really a boxer/puncher like DLH. I don't think he has Calzaghe's improvisation nor his stamina to maintain a hard pace for 12 rounds.

I mentioned on the first post that they're both southpaws, but in terms of boxing mechanics, Dzinzurik does have a resemblance to Kessler's style. Kessler was very good defensively, rarely got hit against a prime Andrade and all his previous opponents.

However, defense is relative to the quality of the opponent you're facing. Elite fighters know how to exploit even the slightest defensive openings. Sergie is good defensively, but it's not an absolute. Martinez has the speed and style to beat Dzinzurik to the punch and land before he can.

That's where the comparison comes it. Fluid speed vs solid mechanics and I'm betting on the fluid speed of Martinez over the stiff mechanics of Dzinzurik.

And just a reminder that Williams was also a southpaw. Martinez timed him and knocked him out. Orthodox or southpaw, Martinez can handle it.

Martinez v Dzinziruk does resemble Calzaghe/Kessler to a degree. Has Dzinziruk fought anyone as athletic, fast and unorthodox as Martinez before? I doubt it. Kessler hadn't before Calzaghe.

Excellent analogy and that's my result, too. 116-112 for Martinez:good

    I don't know.
Martinez doesn't fight as fast or as furious as Calzaghe does.
Dzinziruk doesn't fight as offensively as Kessler does.
Though it does follow the natural talent vs the orthodox European very well, there are differences between the fighters you're trying to compare them to.

Fight is only an hour away, so it's almost time to see how well these guys will perform.

I say Martinez will be too fast for Dzinzurik to time properly. You can only avoid punches as easily as you can see them coming and react to it. Martinez is quick with his hands and feet and Dzinzurik is going have problems figuring him out.

The other issue for Dzinzurik is that he's an inverted southpaw, compared to Martinez, who is a true southpaw. Dzinzurik's power hand is his jab, so his attack will be easier for Martinez to predict than the other way around.
