12th round and he gives up due to a bad hand? Ive seen people break bones in the 1st round and carry on to the final bell because they are warriors and ive always thought Mayorga was one

When, though? At what specific point does any part of his left hand even make contact with any part of Cotto? :huh

In that video AM posted - at 0:02 Mayorga pushes with his left forearm, then throws a right uppercut. At 0:04 he pushes a soft left jab, again mostly wrist & forearm (no way in hell that could have dislocated his thumb) and then throws a right cross. Then the punch lands, and at 0:06 he throws a wild left hook that completely misses and whistles through the air as he's falling back.

So...at no point does any part of Mayorga's left hand actually touch anything solidly - and certainly not his knuckles or thumb.

    So...when did it happen?

I'd still call Cotto elite; he's only lost to Pacquiao and a very suspect Margarito. He has a pretty damn good resume and I can't think of anyone 147 and below that would beat him outside of the top 2 P4P. He'd probably even give Martinez a good fight.

See his ringside interview...he's using the towel with his left hand. It's a normal, working left hand.

Dude didn't want to be KTFO for his last fight.

    Caught it on what?

In the video AM posted, Mayorga's left hand doesn't make any solid contact with anything.

So, if he did legitimately hurt it...then it would have to have been before that exchange. If it was before that exchange, why did he try to throw the left during the exchange? (and then only start appearing to be in pain and indicating the discomfort in his left after the exchange, as he was on his way down from the knockdown punch...)

he didnt hurt himself, dont know why he did that, the fact that he shame with his left hand (who hit nothing) shows how he was hurt by the Cotto's punch

He got hit right on the point of the elbow, which could very well have compressed the nerve.

Not saying you've never boxed before, but everybody should know that it can take a solid 2-3 seconds before you feel the sting from an internal injury, and maybe another couple until your mind can tell your hand, in this case, to do anything about it.

Having said that, yeah, I'm on the fence with the verdict.

I heard it too, but think it was the boom of Cotto's left hook.
That's the loudest punch I ever heard, outdoing DLH's first round kd of Mayorga with the same punch. Both punches are loud as hell.
