Lack of power from Dzin allowed Martinez to take more chances and have more options. If Dzin had more pop to his punches it would have been very different. Martinez put on a solid performance but I wouldn't read much into it. As I said before he did what he was supposed to.
Really? How? You could count the amount of flush, hard punches Dzin landed on one hand. You're essentially saying, "Well, err, if his opponent was someone totally different then things would be different". Does this not apply to every single match-up? Dzin was not a power puncher, everybody knew this beforehand, and yet it still didn't stop a fair few of our posters giving him a good chance at upsetting the odds. Likewise, what strengths he did have were completely taken away from him. He was out-jabbed completely. Time to hold our hands up and just say, "...Hell of a fighter, man".
Watching the fight I never felt that Dzin was dominated in every conceivable way which is what Mayweather did to Gatti or Corrales for example. Dzin outside of the KDs was keeping the fight competitive in the boxing department. He was simply overpowered. It's a shame Dzin doesn't have more power because he is an excellent technical fighter. Still it is a very good win for Sergio and it should bring him back to #3 on the P4P list.
Overpowered. Outjabbed. Outmaneuvered. Outfought. All of these things. Through 5 rounds I was thinking to myself, "...This is a very one sided World Title fight". It was. It was totally one-sided. I honestly don't understand the argument, "Well, if he had more power..". He barely got off enough power shots to make an impression, anyhow.
Err nooo. Martinez last 3 opponents compared to pacs last three opponents. Martinez Dzink (37-0-0) WIlliams (39-1-0) Pavlik (36-1-0) Pac Mosely- (46-6-1) Next opponent. Margarito- (38-6-0) Clottey- (35-3-0)
Never said if he had more power just that it is a shame he didn't. Most World Title fights are one sided. Sergio's biggest liability is his stamina. Around the 7-8th round he gets visibly tired. It happened in the 1st Williams fight and now against Dzindziruk. I'd like to see him against the TOP SMWs because I don't think anyone at MW can beat him.
Not true. Martinez took plenty of punches but Dzin wasn't able to back him up. If he had the power Martinez would not have been able to counter like he did. I am just saying that it was expected. Solid but not exceptional performance. "hell of a fighter, man"
We watched two completely different fights. Dzin landed a handful of eye-catching shots through 8 rounds, and was otherwise being dominated by the jab. I don't see how him carrying more pop is going to make him less susceptible to the jab, and I don't see how Dzin having heavier hands would stop Martinez countering shots that missed in the first place?
I don't know what qualifies as "eye-catching" shot to you but Dzin did landed plenty of solid shots but even as he did Martinez took them and stepped in immediately to counter. Dzin landed 39%, Martinez 38% - accuracy-wise they were about even.
yeah I think thats why martinez stepped up the pressure in the last round, his eye was cut and he couldn't see very well, he probably could have stopped him earlier.
Considering we both know Martinez threw a lot more shots over the course of the fight, why would you even think to bring up that stat? :huh
think about what your saying, having heavier hands and bigger shots slows down a fighter and makes them more susceptible to punches. You have to remember this is sergiys first fight at 160
SD acquitted himself alright but didnt react well to getting hurt...whereas Martinez turned it up at the right times and came out possessed when cut. That jab for SD was starting to land with consistency and I thought I saw a hint of frustration on Martinez...but I think the difference is thats all Dzin did, he really seemed unwilling to unload that left even for just scoring. But Martinez looked his confident two handed self. Serg's power is looking ****ing brilliant..I cant believe this cat is 35..or whatever.
LOL @ "beatdown". He landed ONE great punch all night long that put Sergiy down and Sergiy got right back up. It was far from a "beatdown".
Think about what your saying. Having heavier hands is only going to be the difference between winning and losing if the fighter who possesses them is landing regularly. Kelly Pavlik is heavy handed, even by 160lbs standards, and yet his power was completely nullified because he wasn't landing often enough and cleanly enough to make it count. Dzin was bested in every department in last nights fight, and that is why he lost, not because his punches didn't carry enough weight. That is only a viable excuse if the fighter in question is actually landing...Dzin landed a very modest amount of punches...the most he did land were jabs, not power punches.
