He gave a hellacious fight to Mosley, Cotto and beat Vernon Forrest twice. What would his place in history be?

no one will probably remember him for his actual boxing record. 29-8-1 is pretty sad

He'll be remembered for his big mouth, beating Forrest, and getting beat by numerous others.

Do casual fans even know who Forrest is?

No big name wins on his resume.

Mayorga is one of the most overhyped fighters in boxing history. He has done exactly TWO impressive things in his career...KO Forrest, and out box Mosley, other than that...NOTHING! He gets knocked out every time he fights a big name. He'd deserve a bit more credit had he went the distance against Mosley and Cotto, but...he didn't, so he doesn't.

I meant Mayorga has no big names on his scalp list, aside from Vernon

Now that he's retired, I expect he will do endorsements for the tobacco industry.

So, as to his place in history, think MARLBORO MAN.

He would have lost the decision to Mosley anyway, and I didn't see the Cotto fight, but I heard Cotto was on his way to a fairly wide UD.

P4P top 10 trashtalker, who fought a couple of great boxers but only had Vernon's number and lost the rest by stoppage.
