I take it you don't remember his demolition of Andrew Six Head Lewis which was the reason why he got a unification with Forrest. Plus his back to back victory's over Forrest - who himself was coming off a fight vs SSM who was the consensus number 1 P4P - was VERY significant. Especially considering the manner of Vernon's first loss to Mayorga. He then went onto face Spinks to try and unify all the titles in a contestable decision where Spinks turned it into a track meet. And then very memorable losses vs Trinidad in his comeback fight and DLH. The first few rounds of Trinidad Mayorga were some of the best rounds EVER in the history of boxing. Like him or loathe him Mayorga was a VERY significant fighter considering his lack of boxing acumen which he achieved with his brash bravado style. The one thing Mayorga had was a huge pair of big ass balls.
I think Mayorga should not retire, he put a great fight and it seems he train his hardest in a while for this Cotto fight. He shouldn't let this defeat retire him. I think on that night Mayorga could have come victorious against other good name opponents.:good
According to Emmanuel Stewart, Forrest was injured prior both fights(thus why he took the long break). So outside of whooping on an injured Vernon Forrest, he boxed with Mosley and got his ass whooped by everyone else.
Forrest was 35-0 when Mayorga beat him you jackass! Boxing history isn't written by casual fans. Keep trying Noob!!
Dude just go and watch the first few rounds of Mayorga Trinidad and tell me you didn't like that cat. Mayorga stuck his chin out on purpose asking Trinidad to clock him with the left hook. Twice he did that and Mayorga just ate them and fired back. He did the same vs Forrest who wilted and lost by KO. I nearly jumped out of my seat when Mayorga did that against Tito. Some of the best rounds of boxing ever. Armchair QB's that surf Boxrec and only started watching boxing yesterday. They make themselves look stupid. I don't need to do that for them.
He will be remembered as one of the most entertaining and colorful characters in boxing, one with a big mouth and a big pair of balls. A dude who once climbed to the top of the boxing world with his balls and a little boxing. I will certainly miss him.
Good post's by SportsLeader and Scurlaruntings. :good Mayorga = Greatest Entertaining Sportsman of All times for me! along with Muhammed Ali. in and out the ring! always gets the adrenaline going! i wish he dont retire! i bet he wont retire! he's a promoters dream! besides Lotta gr8 fight'$$ out there 4him. id like to see him with Margarito for starters. sort of like a two ton tony Galento who put Louis on the deck and could give any fighter hell. A guy who infused a little interest and excitement to the sport
You know Mayorga said marg is the only fighter he genuinely dislikes when they interviewed him right before the fight backstage. Mayorga a G.
