Competetion is what makes business' strive to put out a better product. Now that there is a monopoly, you want mma you have to go through dana white to get it. This is not good news at all. Say goodbye to variety. Say goodbye to great cards on free tv. But I still choose not to buy anything with dana white attached to it and I will continue. If that means never seeing another mma event, so be it.
I don't think you'll be the only one. Quite a few "UFC Zombies" will guffaw and laugh over this but this is the reality. The sport of MMA WILL loose fans because of this. I for one wont purchase ANYTHING to do with Zuffa from now on. I like watching other promotions. I love this sport. That should be my right. Not a ****ing privilege. They wont be getting my support any more.
Because the UFC Mafia Cartel is better? M-1 is basically ONE fighter. Zuffa is the entire ****ing sport. Try and again Sugar.
ME! ME! ME! .... To be honest i don't see me watching much MMA any more. Boxing's my first love. No matter what happens to it il always be a fan of the sweet science. Looks like it just got me back full time. Hey ho...
Im gonna still watch the UFC. Subscriptions cheap enough and I love this generation of fighters. But as for down the line, who knows. I suspect PPV's will become the norm in the UK in time then Im out
If there's a big bout that catches my attention il happily join a free "leech". But i don't care much for the UFC's presentation. Its interesting as my friends who are casual UFC fans who would phone me every time there was a UFC event on are also not watching MMA any more. And one of them who lives in Canada said quite bluntly GSP is boring as he has no interest in his fights. If the casual fans interest isn't piqued and the UFC want to charge PPV for each show this sports as good as dead.
Competition such as in Boxing? Where top fighters in each promotion dont fight each other? Weve had BJ vs. GSP, Shogun vs. Machida, Hendo vs. Silva, Brock vs. Cain...while were still waiting for Pac vs. Floyd. We'll get to see GSP vs. Silva first for sure.
I cared about this news for about 5 minutes before not giving a f-k anymore. It's been going this way since late 2006 and now the process is complete. The majority of fighters, media and most importantly the fans made their bed. We will have years of failed international ventures with business genius DW leading the way, maybe they can find more oil sheiks to bail them out. I will still watch, but I won't lose any sleep over MMA outside a few super fights.
All fighters under the same banner. Any fights are possible. Fanbases that head toward organizations for one fighter, like Russia or the Dutch, can now further embrace the UFC with its variety of elite talent and its provenly effective marketing, which will only globalize and grow the sport. Now there are enough fighters, many from Strikeforce who openly say they want more fights, so that we can move toward weekly cards by Zuffa. This **** is like Fight Club, and Tyler Durden is taking it farther by the month. This could be the biggest sport in the world in less than a decade. How this is bad I cannot understand.
Complete monopoly of the sport. Fighters unwilling to comply to the will of Zuffa will have to eke out a living Tim Sylvia style. Smaller orgs getting their best talent cherry picked and failing to establish a decent hold on the market. Being force fed the roster of Zuffa yes boys as the best in MMA. And even when they do have the best fighters, they'll be forced to give up their image rights, have Zuffa veto their sponsors and take a cut of the Sponsorship money. And when negotiating the contracts there will be no bargaining chip of signing for Strikeforce instead to force Zuffa's hand. In short if you want to make it in MMA, Zuffa is the only option
Bear in mind Tim is only able to do that because of his name in the UFC. That said most of these fringe promotions don't even get any TV time. So it doesn't even matter. As whatever they do they'll never make much money or develop if no one can see them on TV.
My point was in relation to this generation of fighters. I mean Overeem for example will sell tickets, but as you said he'll be lucky to get TV time. And good luck finding some decent opponents in which to build a card on that isnt going to be more than a one off event. I guess Todd Duffee and Timmy are available though..... And as for the next generation of fighters who have yet to establish themselves..... be prepared to kiss some ass
