Now with cintron - pavlik - pw x2 (arguably) - dzinzurik on his resume how goos is sergrio martinez? is he benefitting from the lack of REAL comp in boxings landscape or would he be this effective in most generations of boxing? he's an interesting case
I think hes very good and woud do well in any era.. In fact i think he beats most mw of the past.. The Mw division is kind of weak now but hes beaten the 2 biggest names convincingly.... Make no mistake Pavlik and Willams are quallty fighters , Martinez is just that good.... Id say hes the best MW since a prime Hopkins and could hold his own with even the greats... Even if he was around when the Mws were deep with great fighters hed probably come out with a big win.
Looks like a damn good fighter to me. He's bordering on all-time great status. Unfortunately, he doesn't have great opposition around him at the moment so if he wants to achieve some level of greatness he likely has to get out of his comfort zone and take bigger challenges at 168.
hes top class i dont known if hes been held back or hes hitting his peak late in his life something we will never know
Really good. Although he does have good wins on his resume, he lacks the quality opposition to tell how good he really is. He seems to have flaws but no one has been able to exploit them enough for a decisive victory, with exception to Margo yrs ago, but he was a completely different fighter then.
Sergio is fighting at an elite level and with his confidence so high, it will take a bigger man to beat him. I think Bute, Ward and Froch are the only guys that have a chance to beat him from 168 and down. Top 4 pound for pound now. Would have beaten Pavlik and Jermain Taylor back in 2007 and would have fought Hopkins close in 2001 due to style match up primarily.
He's amazing. But simply put the competition isn't there yet at 160, which is unfortunate because it's a division that'll be deep in a few years. I know he says he's too small for 168, but Pavlik was 178 in their fight and he handled the size very well. If he wants to be #1 p4p like he says then he's going to have to duplicate the risks of the current #1 and fight bigger guys.
Wow. Check out this SI article: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20...03/13/martinez-dzizdurik/index.html?eref=sihp The guy was offered a contract to play professional futbol and tried cycling before committing to boxing in his 20s. Dude's quite the athlete. I'm a fan.
