Blood tests for drug use involve collecting about 10-20 cc of blood (1-2 vials). 4 of these drug tests will equal 50-100 cc, or about 10% - 20% of a pint of blood given in donations (450cc). 1. How do periodic reductions in hemoglobin affect an athlete's ability to train? From: Inside Triathlon Blood is a complicated tissue with many different roles. When you donate blood, you give up a pint of fluid containing mostly water along with various proteins and cells in solution. During high-intensity endurance activities however, it is hemoglobin, found within our red blood cells, that is most important. Hemoglobin delivers oxygen to our tissues, and when we exercise our muscles require increased amounts of oxygen. If we lack sufficient hemoglobin, anaerobic, or without oxygen, metabolism will ensue (producing lactic acid) at even seemingly moderate levels of intensity. This content is protected This content is protected , (which is why you may not donate more often than every two months). What then are the lasting effects of this red blood cell loss? Assuming that your cardiac output (the amount of blood pumped by the heart) remains constant, a drop in hemoglobin concentration associated with donating blood will reduce your oxygen delivery to working muscles by 10 percent. Still, when you are at rest, or even during moderate levels of exercise, oxygen delivery, even at this decreased capacity, far outpaces demand. However, once you reach a heart rate that is around 5 to 10 percent below your usual anaerobic threshold, your body's demand for oxygen will outpace its supply. For example, if your metabolism typically becomes anaerobic at a heart rate of 170, then after donating blood you will become anaerobic at a heart rate of between 157 and 164 beats per minute. This value will fluctuate because your hemoglobin level will be rising slowly each day, thus the most significant effect will be felt in the first few days after donating. 2. Donating Blood - What Active People Need to Know He notes that many variables make it difficult to predict how much or how long donating a pint of blood will affect athletic performance. However, he notes that recovery after blood donation is fairly fast. Eichner writes: "In my anecdotal experience, This content is protected ." 10% of 4 weeks is roughly 3 days, the same amount of time Pac complains about not feeling well in training after giving blood for testing hepatitis. :deal
Pavlik was a good-name win for Martinez but he fought a Pavlik who was deep into alcohol and was obviously out of shape to compete even with bums.
You've already started a thread on exactly about this, and got owned by people in this forum who are up to date on the subject. ......it turns out that link you've posted here are of people who donate blood. Obviously if you take a significant ammount of blood out of the human body, it can have an effect on them. Blood testing for athletic performance athletes, have significantly much less blood drawn. There is'nt any proof that these tests diminish an athletes athlectic perfomance. .......and even if you thought it did, both fighters in this case are being tested the same ammounts on the exact same days. One fighter does not have an advantage over the other. You've been owned on the matter on the very thread you started, why bring this subject up again *******?patsch
Owned? Articles states losing blood robs you of athletic performance. donating a pint affects you for a month. The amount needed for testing about 3 days a pop if you studied math in school. :hi:
I doubt the math really works like that, but it doesn't change the fact that losing blood = bad for your health. Only on ESB do we have these biological anomalies of human beings who are capable of regenerating blood cells at a supernatural rate, yet think that a man gaining 4lbs over the course of 5 years requires illegal steroid use.
If Martinez can make 150lbs, then the fight is on. Margarito can make 150lbs. If Margarito is indeed bigger than Martinez as you mentioned, then Martinez will have no problem making 150lbs.
martinez comes in during fights around 168-170. margo came in during the pac fight @165. martinez will have at least a 20+ lb. size advantage vs. pac. that's already too much for even a great p4p fighter like pac to overcome. and margo is definitely not bigger than martinez. margo was still able to make 150. i have serious doubts that martinez can even make 154 now.
You know you are great when your haters are forcing you to fight a middleweight champ after you came in 2 pounds below the contracted catchweight on FIGHT NIGHT. :rofl
