Why even mention Norton and Frazier anyway? I hate that about Klitschko fans. Any criticism and the obvious answer is "Yeah, well what about ____". Mention holding and their fans will talk about Ali, mention chins and their fans will talk about guys like Norton and Frazier, mention quality of opposition and they'll mention Louis, mention poor defences and they'll talk about Haye.

****ing accept criticism or actually defend them, rather than deflect the issue.

Might as well talk to yourself mate. Very good post but it's going to fall on deaf ears who will insist that Purrity was a monster and WALDO gassed against Brewster as opposed to got KTFO which is what really happened.

Did you watch the Brewster/Purrity fights?

    He clearly gassed.

For ****s sake in the Brewster fight there were probably 20 comments from RJJ/Lampley/Merchant about how Wlad was going to punch himself out at the pace he was going.

    Guess what happened?

In the Puritty fight Vlad ran out of gas. He was very young then, did not train because he was busy promoting the fight, his corner threw in the towel in the 11th round. Vlad then went on to be the first to stop Azel Schultz, something Foreman could not do. If fact, Schultz beat Foreman up pretty badly, Foreman gave up his IBF title rather than fight a rematch. Rematch was ordered because the decision was so absurd. Whatever, that loss had nothing to do with a bad chin.

In the Corrie Sanders fight Vlad did not train, did not know who Sanders was, did not spar, came into the ring cold, uninterested. I did my best to warn a member of Team Klitschkos, posted this warned on ESB years ago. Posted in at boxing.de. warned Klaus Peter Kohl, ad infinitum! Sanders had been training for months, was training to fight Valouev in South Africa, was in the best shape of his entire career. Sanders is the best south paw heavyweight in boxing history, he is very fast, hits extremely hard, has fantastic reach, etc. Corrie's nick name was "The Sniper" and for good reason. If Vlad had been with Steward, he would not have lost. Vlad would have won rematch, but Corrie did not want one. If Vlad would have trained, he would not have lost. It was Vlad's fault, so fight was stopped while Vlad was still on his feet, TKO. Vlad has never been knocked out, unlike Lennox Lewis. Vlad made zero excuses about that fight though, and was fine after the fight was stopped.

In the Brewster fight, Vlad was drugged, and I mean drugged! Doctors were concerned about his going into a diabetic coma, missing watch bottle, video of stranger in Vlad's dressing room, change in betting odds at last minute, no betting allowed on Vitali's fight, etc., so that had nothing with Vlad's chin. Vlad was cheated.

So, the only time Vlad was actually hurt on the chin was the Sanders fight. The first time Vlad fought Peter, he got knocked down one time. The other two were bogus. One time an illegal punch behind the head and the other a push, not punch at all. Vlad knocked Peter out in a rematch, and won the first fight. Vlad also stopped Brewster in rematch. Vlad could not get Sanders to fight him in a rematch. No bad chin, Vlad's chin is fine. I have seen him hit with a few really hard shots without hurting his at all.

Vlad having a bad chin is a myth. Was not claim that Lewis had a bad chin? He was TKO's by McCall and knocked out cold by Rahman. So, why don't they claim that Lewis had a bad chin? Joe Louis was knocked out. Did he had a bad chin? Tyson?, Holmes, Liston, etc.

His chin is susceptible but not as bad as advertised. In 2 of his losses he was gassed. The only real KO loss was to Sanders.

Sure, he also got dropped vs Peter, but he recovered well after each KD. A big time pressure fighter with power, endurance and decent speed would give him problems. Haye has power and speed, but his endurance is lacking and he's not much of a pressure fighter, probably due to the fear of getting gassed himself.

Its worth pointing out he's had about 60 professional fights and fought at a world level for a decade now. For a fighter who has been around as long as Wlad has it would be more remarkable if he'd never been down. I'd say Wlad has an average chin for a heavyweight. It just happens to be one of the few attributes he has that isn't elite standard (think of his power, size, movement and ability to avoid getting hit) so people will naturally jump on it when they get the chance

It's not deflecting criticism, just putting it into context

Only people who don't know much about boxing think that everything has to do with a fighters "chin" anytime that they had a few bad fights. Normally when fighters go down a lot, it's much more to do with balance, defense, over-aggressiveness, laziness, technique, over-extending... ect... Especially when it's a fighter who has been Champion since 2006 and hasn't even came close to being knocked down or even stunned since that point.... let alone knocked OUT which is what happens to people with glass jaws. Heavyweight fighters who have China chins don't go on a 5 year title reign without being knocked down.

Wlad used to have a compound problem of overextending himself on his punches, being overly-aggressive... and leaving himself off balance. This at just a few points in his career left him open to getting hit flush in ways that boxers aren't supposed to be hit. This is why Steward has Wlad fight at a much more controlled pace. Pick his punches properly and not just throw power shots for the sake of throwing them.

The only fight that Wlad lost in which he was even hurt and beat by punches was against Sanders. And he was hit FLUSH by many power punches... yet never failed to get up. You don't have to have a glass chin to go down from flush shots by Corrie Sanders. Especially when we are talking about SEVERAL flush power shots. Wlad, at that point in his career... was clueless as to how to handle himself when hurt. That's because DO TO HIS GOOD CHIN... he had gone over 100 am fights and all of his pro fights to that point without actually being hurt by any punches. Another thing that DOES NOT happen with glass chin fighters. Even against Puritty, Wlad was on his feet taking several flush power punches when the fight was stopped because Wlad was simply exhausted... from fighting overly-aggressive. The punches were merely a reason to stop the fight due to Wlad's inability to protect himself. It wasn't as if Puritty tapped him and he went out cold. Again... against Brewster... it was clear to everyone with a set of eyes that Wlad was finished in that fight before Brewster even landed a meaningful punch. That loss had nothing to do with Brewster's punches, and everything to do with the fact that for one reason or another (I guess illness)... Wlad was completely gone and could have been pushed over by a 10 year old by the 5th round. He said himself that after the he battered Lamon in the 4th round... and they fell to the canvas after the round... Wlad said that he would not have been able to get back up if it wasn't for the ref helping him. He had no legs. Wlad has never been knocked out cold. Wlad has taken several huge punches from the likes of Sam Peter, and Lamon Brewster and stayed on his feet when the punches landed. Once again... that is NOT what glass chinned fighters do.

Just look at Wlad after the 4th round of a fight in which he did nothing but beat Lamon Brewster senseless up to this point. He was completely out of it... Look at his face, ffs.... His legs looked like rubber...

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5Lf_wXLPkg[/ame]

Yet, even when Brewster lands those two HUGE left hooks... that melt other fighters like Golota and Krasniqi, ect... Wlad stays on his feet. Look at Wlad as the ref counts and he stands in the corner. Simply exhausted, gasping for air. Not the look at ALL of a fighter hurt by punches. If you know anything about boxing you have got to agree.

Now watch Wlad's legs, footwork, movement, and overall body language in the second fight....

    Notice the HUGE difference?

His head snaps back when he gets hit, you can see how unprepared he is when taking punches. He has a naturally weak chin, his punch resistance is below average. He learned to make his chin elusive with Steward and lean back when fighters storm at him instead of sticking his chin out into the midrange, exposing it, like he did 10 years ago.

The people who laugh how often Wlad has been down are making two mistakes: 1. they forget the total number of rounds/fights Wlad has been in overall 2. half of the knockdowns occurred in one fight (Sanders)

If Lewis had gotten up 4x against McCall und 4x against Rahman so he'd been down a total of 8 times, would it make his chin worse or better?

How should any athlete be possible to measure if we cant use comparasions? You dont deflect an issue by putting in into a context.

do the vlad fans agree with the view that vlad is petrified of being hit?
