1. **** up Margo. AND 2. Try to get a second fight with Pac - here me out. At least he can get a pay day (which he truly deserves unlike some guy from Argentina trying to cash out on smaller fighters....) and truly see if his camp problems (father, shoulder issues, etc) and having Steward makes a difference. If he loses, it just confirms the first fight. If he wins, trilogy for more money.
He won't beat Margarito. Why do people want to see Cotto beaten up again? Is it some kind of morbid thing? Haven't you all seen enough boxing to know Cotto is simply not meant to beat Margarito??
Cotto looked anything but fine in this fight! He was a sucker for right hands, even getting hit to the body cos his hands were up a little too high, some of his old habits that were creeping in as the fight progressed. He jabbed well, but his feet were not fast enough, and there was little head or upper body movement. He stayed in the pocket a little too much after he got his jab off and was getting tagged. The shot counts showed Mayorga landed a healthy number of power punches. Something which a guy who is simply a slugger with little skill should be able to land. Either we concede that Mayorga actually has very good boxing skills, or Miguel is a pretty vulnerable fighter right now. Which one is it?
I agree. There was maybe one round where Mayorga actually landed some good punches but for the most part I thought Cotto ducked, slipped most of the punches. Many of those punches also were just hitting glove. I did have a few drinks in me that night, but I will be re-watching the fight next week on Showtime but I thought Cotto did well. Margarito will definitely be a harder fight for him though, as people say his style will cause his problems. If Cotto can work on his endurance and keep it going for 12 rounds though he has a good chance of winning. Remember he was winning the first half of the fight before his stamina just went out the door and he started getting hit more. I also want to see what Margarito has left himself. He got beat down pretty bad in his last fight and Mosley kicked his ass too, so all this talk about Cotto not being the same, we dont know if Margarito is the same.
Punch totals Jabs Cotto 127 of 286 Mayorga 15 of 131 Power punches Cotto 122 of 222 Mayorga 161 of 391 Total Cotto 249 of 508 Mayorga 176 of 522 Now numbers don't always tell the full story of a fight, but you say Cotto slipped most of the punches and Mayorga landed a few, well if 161 power punches to you is a few punches, then I guess we disagree on that too. the numbers tell us that Cotto dominated with the jab, in that there was no contest. But in the exchanges Mayorga came off better. So you see Cotto is taking far too many punches, from a guy who has HALF the work rate of Margarito. Margo will throw more, he will land more, and even if Cotto wins the jabbing contest, when it comes to slugging it out, which is Margo's game, he'll come out second best. Seriously anyone who cannot see how vulnerable Cotto looked in this fight need their heads examined. And Mayorga has barely had a meaningful fight since Mosely and look what he still was able to do. Cotto is not washed up but he's not the fighter he was and although he may still be involved in exciting fights I saw nothing in this fight to suggest that he can mix it at the very top.
Nearly, that's the key here. He shouldn't have won any. Yet he clearly won the 7th and 2 more. You do realize the three score cards were 107 - 102 for Cotto before the stoppage, that is 8 rounds for Cotto, 3 for Mayorga.
obviously didnt own it enough to change the outcome of the fight :deal cotto still has something left has to be given credit for coming back after margarito an manny fights someone cut from a lesser cloth would have hung them up
HAHAHA... This discussion is over. It is not worth furthing a discussion with anyone who truely believes that.
I'm not here arguing Cotto should retire. I think he has good chances against newcomers, Canelo, Vanes, Lara, and he utterly destroys Chávez Jr. etc. But Margarito ****s him up again. BTW, I never said Mayorga was about to change the outcome of the fight, you pulled that one.
Wow. atsch Sure, Mayorga landed 161 power punches... ....out of 391. What do you think happened to the 230 that didn't land?
when you state someone owns someone in afight they usally win that fight. your opinion is margo ****s up miguel cuz he is not the same an lost the first one but you think antonio is still same the after mosley dismanteled an dispatched him an manny brutally beat him down as well
If Cotto gets brutalized again by Margarito then I agree that he should retire. But until then, no. The rematch needs to happen. Both fighters need each other.
