I am a big cotto fan and have been watching him for many years now. after watching the foreman fight yesterday for the 3rd time, and mayorga fight for the 2nd time i have some thoughts on cotto and his future, give me your honest opinions and no hating please...

1.cotto is definitely not finished or past his prime, he has been in many wars but he is still young

2.cotto belongs in 147 more than he does 154

3.against mayorga this was the first fight he has been in with such a long layoff (8 and half months) i saw ring rust the first 3 rounds

4.he is more of a boxer now and is pacing himself well, his jab always was on point but it is really sharp now and keeps his right hand up high at all times!

5.his stamina was better then ever! right hand was powerful as hell and he needs to throw it more in the future! his balance was definitely on point along with his footwork and counterpunching

6.I saw him clinch!! defense may have been slight better but lets face it he gets hit with right hands and uppercuts

    7. As long as he is conditioned 100% he will cruise to a ud against margarito but he will still backpeddle in the late rounds

8.cotto is a huge draw still, everywhere i went bars were showing the fight people were talking about it all over facebook and twitter

9.he beats alvarez berto anyone in 147 and 154 not named pacquiao and mayweather, kirkland and martinez are just to big and powerful and belong above 154

I agree that he's not finished, but I want to see him back soon to see if he's a bit past it or not. I agree that he belongs at 147 and not 154. In a PR newspaper I read that although Cotto had to lose around 25lbs (because of the long layoff) that his team had to keep a strong eye on his weight because he was getting too light.

He seems to have reverted a bit to a more passive style(similar to his 140lbs days). I like it, but would like to see him mix this old style a bit more with the one when he fought Mosley. Margarito will be a very tough fight again for Cotto, and I really wish this fight would take place at ww, except that Margo of course can't make the weight and fighting at 154 benefits him. Still, Cotto was pretty much on par(scorecards) in their first fight, and I think with a better gameplan and conditioning Cotto has a decent shot at escaping with a close UD. Margarito will give him hell again, but hopefully this time he weathers it better than the first. Alvarez is a tough fight for Cotto(mainly because of his size), I see it as a toss up right now. I think him fighting Berto would be great, but seems unlikely in the near future, and I agree that Kirkland and Martinez would beat him at 154 or higher.

I didn't see anything that would tell me Cotto has changed or that he has returned to his previous form.
He shouldn't be at 154. Too slow, too small and not as powerful.
Not using his right hand like he did back at 140 lbs.
    Not clinching

I think after the Margo fight he should retire. The old Cotto is forever gone.

WAYYYYY too patient, after he lands a good combination he sits back.

Defense is still not there, he needs to stop trying to shoulder roll.

I didn't see much body work at all.

Footwork has improved, but dances around too much.

Right hand definitely needs some more work.

Doesn anyone know why boxers always wear a cap after the fight, I never heard why a lot of them do it.

I think the problem is that people expect Cotto to look like his old self and that is not going to happen. I am using the Foreman fight as a starting point and he showed progress since that fight and I am hoping to see progress in his next fight.

I agree he needs to stop trying to shoulder roll! He cant do it so stop trying! Also, after he lands a big punch he steps back and looks at his oppenent as if he's saying "got you." Instead of stepping back, he should step in with another punch. He also needs better defense, Mayorga doesnt have the fastest hands and he was landing alot.

Hes a fighter who is still learning. I wish he would have a meaningful defense of his 154 belt and move down to 147 again and reclaim the top.

He moved up cos he wasn't able to make the weight and he kept draining himself. Its not good for your body to do so.

Before he even had his first 154lbs fight I knew he is too small for the weightclass. Tito and Oscar were around 5'11". I knew Mayorga wasn't going to be easy (HE NEVER IS) and was praying for Miguel to show up in top shape. Mosley also went 11.5 rounds agains Mayorga and then destroyed Margarito. Can Cotto beat Margarito? Yes! But it wont be "cruising" He needs to be in the best shape of his life. It will be a hard fight. Martinez? NAH! Too big!
