The Mayorga fight was a damn farce, that guy has been irrelevant since Tito smashed him. Now he's fighting Margarito? A guy who hasn't won a significant fight in 3 years?? I'm sick of Cotto getting a ****ing free pass with this ****. He's a champion at 154lbs!! I still see people putting this has been on P4P lists, its absurd! 1. See if Martinez can come down to 154lbs 2. What's wrong with fighting Paul Williams??? 3. Even Dzrzinkzi would be much better than Margario All 3 of those guys beat him, but it doesn't matter because Margo is going to beat him anyway. My only problem is that he's a "champion" and fighting 2 guys in a row here who have not earned a shot, not even close.
You have a better view of Cotto than I. Cotto won his big fights with low blows. This is a guy who was knocked down several times by Ricardo Torres. Is it any wonder Margarito and Manny destroyed him? I like Cotto. He's a modest warrior, but he's one of the most overrated fighters ever, a product of internet hype. He and Margo are B-level fighters like Gatti and Ward were.
I'm actually looking forward to see Cotto vs Margo 2, maybe because it'll answer all the questions about their previous fight. :huh

**** that, I'm sick of this bull**** in our sport. He's doing just what Floyd and Pac do now. Fighters get too big for the sport itself and then pick and choose their fights. If he wants to be a novelty act like Hopkins, Floyd and Pac then he should relinquish his title and let the sport move on without him while he participates in these fights that essentially have no bearing on the rankings or the sport....like this fight with Mayorga was.
Cotto's resume is a whose who of people from 140 to 147. Mosley, Judah, Malignaggi, Quintana, Torres, Sosa, Corley, Maussa, Margarito, Clottey, Pacquiao. Now he's added Foreman and Mayorga (who would beat many of the top 10 at 154 - you have to be elite to beat Mayorga convincingly). I don't see a problem. Cotto has never ducked anyone. And Margarito is still a tough proposition for him. If he wins that one I wouldn't be surprised to see him in with Angulo, Kirkland or yes, Martinez if he came down in weight. Cotto doesn't duck anyone. But you can't have a go at him for having a few comeback fights after being battered by the best fighter on earth for 12 rounds.
Many doubt if Cotto can beat Margarito but im looking forward to it. I hope Cotto will end that cheaters career.
Oh no, we agree 100% on Cotto. My point is that if he's going to be overrated and overhyped and if he is going to parade around like a 154lb champion he should be held to the same standard every other fighter is. :deal

I don't think he should fight Margarito either. I mean, revenge is one thing, but what if he loses again? I'd like to see him fight Chavez Jr or even Alvarez, Berto, or P. Williams. The Yuri Foreman fight was ok since he just came off the fights with Margarito, Clottey, and Pac-Man, so I don't have a problem with him fighting a couple of less intense fights, but the above mentioned guys are ones I think would be pretty good. I'd even like to see one of the 140 lbs guys come to 147 lbs to fight him; Maidana (whom I think Cotto would beat), Alexander (whom Cotto would beat), Judah again, Khan, or Kotelnik.
Cotto is no longer a really good fighter, but the guy loves fighting and loves getting and wether winning or losing. So he should be given the up and comers and give them a shot at beating a great fighter and give him a shot at bullying some less experienced fighters, which really appeals to his style. Alvarez Vs Cotto would be great and really really have for Alvarez to me, but a winnable fight none the less.
