Marquez would be nice finish off career for pacman to end with, but again politics kicks in with roach demanding 144 i think?

They will have him at number three.

They will keep Pac as number one and rightfully so and they will wait a little longer to see if Floyd fights again if he doesnt he will get dropped from the rankings in the near future and Martinez will climb to number two.

you know this would be good, pac fights either floyd at 147 or martinez at 154 in november, jmm fights judah at 140, if he wins then face pac regardless of his result at a 143 retirement fight.

Good post. I, however, think that -- record notwithstanding- Sergio defeated Paul in the first tilt.

Kudos to Oscar Dela Hoyas' unbaised input to his RING magazine!:yep

The Ring magazine is currently owned by Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Enterprises.

Some may see a conflict of interest in a boxing promoter being paymaster of what is essentially a magazine/rankings organization that awards world titles and belts.

In 1976 The Ring magazine fabricated records of selected boxers, to elevate them, thereby securing them lucrative fights on the American ABC television network, as part of the United States Championship Tournament.

Despite the above, the 1977 Ring Record Book contained the fictitious additions to the records of the boxers in question, and were never taken out of their records of the boxers. Those dubious bouts would continue to appear in subsequent Ring Record Book editions.

This Ring Record Magazine scandal was uncovered by boxing writer Malcolm 'Flash' Gordon and ABC staffer Alex Wallau.

After Gordon and Wallau's evidence was presented to ABC executives the United States Championship tournament was cancelled.

It led to the eventual resignation of New York State Boxing Commissioner James Farley Jr. who had lent his name to the Championship fights[2] and who was the son of former New York State Athletic Commissioner and former Postmaster General James Farley, who had died one year prior to the scandal.

Farley had accepted a hotel room which had been furnished by King, this was used to smear Farley as dirty for accepting kickbacks, forcing his eventual resignation. No formal charges of impropriety were ever filed against Farley. The following year the Boxing Writers Association dedicated their highest honor the "James A. Farley Award", for honesty and integrity in the sport of Boxing.

He's the best risk taker on the planet today. It's not 2008 anymore.

He's not there yet, but after seeing the way in which he destroyed Dzin at the weekend, I'd say its certainly plausible that one may entertain the idea that Martinez could well become the p4p no.1 by mid/late 2012. The guy is simply immense and has on numerous occasions said he wants to fight ONLY the best, goes ahead and does it and wins in dramatic fashion. Dependant upon Pac's upcoming level of competition, I think there is scope within Martinez's weight range, which should he succeed against could well knock Pac off the top spot.

I'd love for him to do it. I'm a big fan of Pac but I cannot stand the way Arum puts his wallet before Pac's legacy. Fed up of the whole Pac/May fiasco, let the warriors like Martinez/Froch continue to entertain us!

I see no problem putting him at #1, Floyd doesn't fight and Pac doesn't fight anyone that's a legit challenge while Martinez is KO'ing top guys that aren't suposed to be KO'd and facing way better opposition

Jesus, beating a B level fighter is enough nowadays to catapult you to number one.

Newsflash, an old and past prime hof fighter is still and always will be better than B level guys unless hes near death.
