RTÉ to screen Willie Casey title fight

    Friday, 11 March 2011 16:06
RTÉ Sport has confirmed that it will screen live coverage of Willie 'Big Bang' Casey's WBA World title fight against Guillermo Rigondeaux on Saturday, 19 March.
The bout will be broadcast across RTÉ Two Television, RTÉ Radio and worldwide on RTÉ.ie.
The fight will feature as part of a bumper day of sport broadcast on RTÉ for Irish sports fans with almost 11 hours of coverage across boxing, rugby and soccer.

Ryle Nugent, Group Head RTÉ Sport, said: 'We are delighted to now be in a position to bring the Irish public live coverage of Willie Casey's WBA World title fight.
'This has been made possible by Dolphil Promotions having secured independent finance to cover the associated television production costs.
'It builds on our strong support of Willie's boxing talent which includes our broadcast of his European Super Bantamweight title win last November.
'Added to the coverage of the RBS 6 Nations, including Ireland v England from the Aviva Stadium, and Premier League action on the day, it makes for a compelling free-to-air offering for Irish sports fans.'

Daniel Halpin, Marketing Executive of Dolphil Promotions, said:
'We are delighted that an agreement has been met and the Irish public will be able to watch this historic occasion in the comfort of their homes.
'One of the greatest amateur fighters of all time, Guillermo Rigondeaux, takes on our very own Cinderella man, Willie Casey, and we are very proud that a television deal with RTÉ has come to fruition.'

The action-packed day of top class sport begins with the final day of the RBS 6 Nations featuring a triple header of games including Ireland v England.
The live rugby is followed by live coverage of the Limerick boxer's challenge for World title glory and the day is rounded off on RTÉ Television with the latest top-flight Premier League action immediately afterwards in Premier Soccer Saturday.

On RTÉ Television presenter Darragh Maloney will be joined in studio by a panel for expert analysis of all the action on Pro Box Live at 10.00pm on RTÉ Two and RTÉ.ie.
Radio coverage will also begin at 10.00pm on RTÉ Radio 1 FM, LW, DAB and online.

I interviewed Holly 'the preachers daughter' Holm and her manger last year, she is welterweight champion of the world and at the time presumed pound for pound womens champ... She was claiming to be Irish etc, and her manager was saying he would love a fight between pound for pound the best amateur and pound for pound pro champ! so could already be big fights there for Katie!!

Imagine she was promoted here and was topping bills on RTE and selling out venues- she would probably go down as the greatest women sports person of all time?

what time u reckon Casey will be in the ring at on Saturday?

I stupidly booked a late dinner a few weeks ago for 9.30 on Saturday. The GF wont be impressed if I cancel, so hoping he isnt in the ring for 10 or something so I might get some of the action in a pub afterwards...
