    Blind Patriotism?

Why? for picking a trial and tested contender or 26 fights, former Olympian ameture star over a unproven slaphappy ameture

    LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

no for picking Andy Lee, "former olympian amateur star"(didnt medal, JDG won gold. not bronze, not silver, gold...oh) who lost to Brian Vera...
Wide on points???? at a weight he's never been at and wouldn't be natural?

    over
Olympic gold medallist and current British champion james degale who has just very convincingly beaten reigning british champion, tried and tested fighter of 31 fights former amateur star Paul Smith

dude. come on, it was the "wide on points" thing that made me chuckle. if you said "close decision" i could accept you actually believe that

It doesn't matter how many fights each guy's had, if you look at their respective best wins you have McEwan and Smith. I think McEwan is the better fighter but there's not a great deal in it. Now look at how they dealt with their respective opponents -

Lee gets outboxed for most of the fight before McEwan gasses badly and he gets the KO. He shows a shockingly leaky defence and can only throw in ones and twos. The only positive thing you can say he showed in the fight was decent stamina and good power which he can carry into the late rounds.

Degale wins every second of every round against Smith, utterly humiliating the guy. He shows great handspeed, footwork, head movement and variety of punches and also some decent power.

The difference in the 2 wins is ****ing huge.

DeGale would beat Lee with sheer ease and then when Lee's get changed with ice pack on head cos he's taken a beatdown James will donate some old clothes for Lee to wear.

    Boring post.

It's not exactly saying Degale is the next P4P king by acknowledging that he would beat Andy Lee. In fact, I think that based on DeGale looking excellent against Decent opposition, opposed to Lee looking decidedly poor against slightly above average opposition, a DeGale win is probably the most likely scenario. As someone pointed out before, DeGale is better than McEwan, and he is bigger than him aswell. Lee would have very few advantages over him, if any. Maybe punching power, and jab, but that is simply not enough.

Yes one of them (everyone apart from a few drunken Irish posters) who realise Andy Lee is not much better than Smith and take into account the size difference and ability of both boxers. You guys really make every one laugh...most of the time.

And by the way I am one of the Brits who support Irish fighters and Lee and I am certainly looking forward to DeGale losing but it will not be against fighters on Andy Lee's level.

    True.

    Very true.
