Size doesn't mean half as much when you have the skills and the antithesis attributes of your opponent, which make for a perfect style matchup (IE, Margo). Martinez is far better than Margorito and bigger probably, too. He won't just plod forward, he can punch good, he has good timing and he can counter. Pac could counter and move against all these come forward guys. They would present themselves and then he leaves... Martinez won't do that. If they ever fight Pac would have his hands full. I'm not saying he can't win but an easy night? I don't think so...

Pac can't go up in weight but so far, Martinez is too big for him, that's why there are weight divisions.

No I really think that Pac has a chance against anyone that can get hit and iniatiates action. Martinez is both. Hes not going to bust Sergio up like he did the other guys but I'll bve honest, the only time Pac got hit by Clottey, and Margo is because Pac wanted to open them up by squaring up to them. The Cotto fight he just got hit becuase Cotto is a very good boxer technically but even so he was giving his body up to Cotto w/o problems.

Martinez has flaws, his cardio isnt perfect, he throws wide at times. So long Pac uses his feet and just be content at sticking and moving, he still has the speed advantage and he has a great shot. Now Martinez can connect and lay him out but at 154, which I think Pac can still be effective, I see no problem.

Im one of the few Pac fans here who wants to see this fight at 154. That is fair no excuses. The Margo fight could have been at 154 and it wouldnt have made any difference. Sergio and Margo are about the same size.

If Margo, who is dimentionally as big with a longer reach compared to Martinez, can fight Pac, as ludicrous as it may seem a few years ago but their meeting, hand wrap scandal and all, made possible by arum's design, the fight with martinez can and will happen only if he gives dibella the shaft and join tr. If jmm is willing to do it to secure a fight with pac after mosley, perhaps martinez can do so to secure what could be pac's swan song.

You've got quite a low standard there. I agree with your sentiment about Pac, but Martinez doesn't really initiate action. He's not like any of the recent guys that Pac has fought. Far far and away different than Margo who actually hurt Pac to the body (Wont' happen, but a point). And while he can be hit, not too cleanly, and not too often; his defense is far and away better than the rest of Pac's recent opposition. And let's not mention Clottey because we both know there's defense and than effective defense.

I don't think the fight would ever happen, though. Would be a good event as an alternative to a Floyd fight. I think Pac's only slowed down since his accumulation of punishment. I just don't think he's quite as fast as he was a year ago. And that only decreases my chances with him against Martinez. I think he's a clear, strong favorite against Pac. Floyd used to be a 50-50 fight not too long ago with me picking Pac by SD would probably be closer to a 60-40 considering his performance against Margo (Which was good, expected, but he didn't look as fast for me as he needed to be like he was against Cotto and Clottey).

Now youre being dumb. This is a top 10 ATG lock if he wins for Pac. If he loses hes a great man for taking this fight. I would be very surprised if this fight doesnt happen, unless Floyd steps up.

Chimba, did you all of a sudden get stupid?

A fight between Mayweather or Pacquiao and Martinez will never happen. Period. If it does, the one to step up should get a homemade batch of cookies from everyone here.

Check out Clottey's and Diaz's resumes respectively. They're not exactly superior to Sergio's resume. Sergio deserves a shot at Pac or Floyd. But I wouldn't mind making Sergio beat Cotto first before he gets either guy.

Fair enough, Martinez is slick but hes a mirror of Pac in some sense that he is a vulnerable champion.

This is quite a possibility of him being battle worn. Id like to see him against Mosley, not that he shouldnt dispose of him but at least we can see his speed compared to Shane just because Mosley is still very fast for two rounds.

I give pac a shot at beating martinez.. pac would be at a size-disadvantage.. I know manny fought margarito at 150 but sergio has good skill and speed and he would be the bigger man.. Manny would have a hard time! Manny is so good that I could see him overcoming these obstacles and winning a close fight.
