    :deal

People seem to think/want Donaire to jump to 26 sooner rather than later - which not only would be ill advised, it's also very unlikely.

You mention Barrera but Arum is currently looking to put him in the ring with Top Rank's latest world champion, Brandon Rios. Yeah, the Khan fight was bad but it was only one fight removed from when Khan was destroyed and his stock was still very low. No way does Barrera deserve a title after solely beating an absolute bum, yet Top Rank will make it happen. Khan/Barrera is a much, much better fight than Rios/Barrera.

    Salita was a mandatory.

Paulie Malignaggi was a former world champion and coming off two impressive performances against Diaz. It was Khan's first fight in America and they needed a good name for him, so it made sense. A perfectly acceptable fight. Saying otherwise is bull****.

The Maidana fight took too long to make, yes, but the majority of that was Maidana. Anyway, it got made in the end, so who cares?

McCloskey is a good opponent and it's good that the British fans get to see this kind of bout. Not the best opponent, no, but for a 'keep busy' fight before the inevitable clash with Bradley, it's no problem.

I haven't heard about Barrera-Rios. I have heard Rios-Soto and Rios-Marquez. Besides that, Rios just fought a beast in Acosta and Peterson was considered more highly rated than Rios when they fought. So while I wouldn't approve of Barrera-Rios fight, atleast Rios has been in a couple of fights, which until Khan fought Maidana, he hadn't ever been in. Khan opponents are carefully picked to guys who have very little chance of beating him. Salita, Barrera, Malignaggi, and McCloskey were all soft touches. I could understand one or two such fights, then for a champion I expect a few more Maidana type fights in there aswell. You can defend Khan all you want, but the basic equation is Khan sells tickets & has a very fragile chin, which equals Golden Boy taking as little chance as possible. In defense, Arum would probably handle that hype job the same way.

Breaking a contract by an individual can be at most a civil offense...unless donaire could demonstrate in court with good lawyering that his renumerative potential was not maximized with due diligence in accord with contractual obligation. For a corporation like gbp to be found guilty of bribing someone to break a contract...is that not a criminal offense under rico statutes punishable by jail time for odl? any lawyer in the house?

emmanul signed a contract with Oscar. bobby gave him a slightly better deal, so he was dumb enough to sign that contract too. He was technically signed to two promoters.

Perhaps as noted by the pinoyfightfanusnavy fellow, there may be a cultural malfunction with pinoys in wanting to please everyone or more likely their following the cultural norm of greed, of having your cake and eat it too.

This is the one I go with. emmanuel owns a few businesses. He's not this idealistic airhead all the pacfags want to believe he is.

Arum deserves this for trying to steal fighters away from GBP by waving potential Pac fights at GBP fighters. Arum is a d*ck.

I like this move by Donaire.

People forget that it was Arum who refused to let Donaire fight in the Batamweight Tournament. Just because he only wants his fighters to fight each other.

I like Manny, but I despise Arum and what he's doing with Manny's career at this point.

Now Donaire is free to fight Abgecko, Mares, and Perez. And move on to better fights.

People are gonna bring up Juanma and Gamboa. But those guys can only fight each other and then what?

Arum doesn't have the balls to put these guys against anyone but Top Rank fighters. No doubt he'll just pull a Manny with them and start cherry picking opponents.
