Yeah there are many, the most recent will be more recognised, Gans vs Nelson is another trilogy that went down in the history books, was pleasently surprised to see Zale/Graziano in there, by all accounts one of the most brutal series of matches ever.

Hey Contendo, don't think you can count Izzy v Rafa cos there was four of them. There are plenty of series that would squeeze into that list otherwise. Four great fights none the less. I think there's a few more old mate left out on the list that you could justify putting on. I'm a big fan of this type of stuff though. Makes for great debate/learning.

 

Each to their own opinion Ippy. Me personally, I made it clear I didn't rate the 4th fight at all. It was simply a money grab for two finished fighters, well after the first three fights took place.

The first three were mighty fights and both fighters didn't face anyone in between, just themselves back-to-back-to-back and only 6-odd months between each fight.

I agree with you, it does make for great debate and learning more about the history of boxing, but I stand as per the original, if a 'trilogy' list doesn't include Vasquez vs. Marquez I,II and III, it's just incorrect.

Those two little Mexican warriors fought every minute of every round, pure and simple. Look at the Gatti vs. Ward II, it was one-sided and Arturo schooled Ward up it was that noticeable.

For me, Vasquez vs. Marquez I, II and III was just everything good about boxing.

Here's one for everyone though - where does Pacquiao vs. Morales rate?

Should Pacman tackle Juan Manuel Marquez again & its competitive (not sure it would be but hoping so) then that trilogy would have to be right up there too IMO.

I agree mate, but it's not a trilogy, otherwise Chacon v Limon would walk into the list. That being said, their fourth fight was the best. Surprised Leonard v Duran made it. First fight was a belter, second Duran quit and the third Leonard ran and it was like watching paint dry.

 

Most on the list are because of the fighters, not the actual fights.

How Gatti vs. Ward is 4th is beyond me! :nut

You can't beat Ali/Frazier. All fights showed what the meaning of heart is.

 

I wouldn't of included Duran Leonard. What about Olivares Castillo though!
