I think recently it has been seen as a two horse race since floyd retired; first it was pac/jmm then it became pac/floyd. Now I believe there are 4 boxers operating at a different level and all, imo, have an argument for being seen as the best boxer today.

We have pac who stormed to the top in pretty boys absence and crushed some high quality opposition in hatton, cotto and clottey. However he recently took his foot off the gas with fights against margo and mosley.

We have floyd who is recognised by most as supremely talented but his inactivity and recent lack of prime opposition is heavily weighing against him.

We have donaire who has twice knocked out top 10 p4p stars with one shot, but has a shockingly shallow resume for someone with his talents.

And we have martinez, my pick. He has stormed up the rankings lately with a series of high calibre performances against top quality opposition, seemingly getting better and more refined with every fight. However he is on the wrong side of 36 so has he left it too late?

The fact that we can genuinely discuss 4 names in the hat for p4p number 1 is amazing in my book. Boxing is really coming to the forefront again. Even beyond these 4 we have the likes of jmm, hopkins, lopez, segura, wlad, bradley, khan etc.

This is a good time to be a boxing fan and I believe we are about to enter a great era. We have an excellent mixture of prime and vintage fighters littering the elite levels of the sport.

But I ask you, esb, who do you rate as number 1?

I vote Pac. But I suppose it depends on what you go for.
Pac -If you go for accomplishments over last 5 years.
Floyd if you base it on skills and fictional Fights.
Martinez if you like to go with the moment and whoo's hot right now.

For me its Pac hands down. His achievements will go down in history. Martinez as it stands as had 3 good wins in a row.

Them 3 good wins are better, imo, than any other active boxers last 3 wins.

    1) Floyd
    2) Wladimir
    3) Manny
    4) Sergio
    5) Nonito

  10. pacquiao is number one. its not close at all. this thread is dumb. you have to be a complete moron to put martinez above pacquiao. you have to be mentally ******ed and a sexual deviant to put donaire above the destroyer.

Makes sense and looks right enough. At least, if you haven't started to either penalise or totally remove Floyd for inactivity.
