Is there any chance Golden Boy did on purpose to thwart Donaire's career?

I mean they must have known that Top Rank extended their contract with Donaire into 2012. Even I knew just from reading a few interviews on the internet.

There's a big chance that with Donaire putting forward such a great performance worthy of a superstar on HBO, they felt threatened and decided that they would do anything in their power to put the breaks on Donaire's success.

I just read another interview where Arum specifically says that Top Rank's agreement with Golden Boy over the whole Pacquiao issue has a clause that says that Golden Boy cannot poach Top Rank's fighters.

So basically it looks like Golden Boy have no intention of putting Donaire in big fights, but rather are just trying to stall his career to deal a blow to Top Rank. To prevent Top Rank from having another cash cow in their ranks.

What's sad in all this is that the one who is truly gonna suffer is Nonito.

This could backfire on Golden Boy, as HBO will surely not be happy that they stalled the career of one of their few remaining stars.

Arum will deserve the blame for trying to sabotage the kid's career out of spite.

GBP signed Donaire because he is still young, prime and top 5 P4P in the world. There is no uterior motive, i'll guarantee you that. Pure business

What makes you think he doesn't believe it to be fact? GBP's legal team reviewed the situation and felt that Donaire was a free agent, so they signed him.

He's not a ****ing idiot because he wasn't being paid right. I pointed this out months ago when everyone was crying about his purse for the Montiel fight.

Arum is trying to hold onto the fact that Donaire's contract with TR specified that any time off due to injury would extend their contract and Donaire was always diagnosed with some type of injury after every fight, as is every other fighter after a fight.

Arum took his eye off the prize and is paying the price for it. :deal

Pure business... but if they are tied up in legal battles and unable to put Donaire in the ring then how is that good business? They won't be making any money. What they will be doing is preventing Top Rank from making money though.

Honestly I hope I'm wrong, that Donaire and Golden Boy covered their tracks, and that he can successfully transition over to GBP and get back in the ring ASAP against someone like Mares.

    But I have my doubts.

I don't see it dragging on any longer than a few months, so IMO worst case scenario would be Donaire-Mares in the fall. He will probably triple his purse from the Montiel fight, so i'm sure he is willing to live with that.

We'll see. Worst part of this is that it only widens the divide between GBP and TP and we shouldn't expect to see them working together in the near future. :verysad

What is wrong with you dude?

    Are you mentally ******ed?

If you were a promoter and there was a young kid with loads of potential being called a super fighter wouldnt you be after him??

Everyone wishes they could have him. GBP just has the resources to get them.

    Dont ever go into business.

A lot of people don't trust Arum, but I seriously don't trust GBP.. Arum look's out for his best fighters and Donaire was getting his fights.. He was almost signed to fight Moreno, but that might have totally gone out the window now as Donaire might be sidelined with these legal problems between both promotors.. All in all, Donaire should have stayed with Top Rank..

There will be similar backlash once JMM signs with Top Rank. I'm pretty anti-Arum but signing with TR appears to be the right move for Marquez at this point in his career.

I'm sure Bob will guarantee him the Pac fight either in November if they can't make the fight with Floyd or early next year and he can dangle a fight with Bam Bam while he's waiting.

Not only will he be making big money but he will be getting pitted in against good fighters on HBO. Something Arum could not do for him. If i was Donaire i would have left him too. He had Pacs big events which includes alot of Donaires fans yet he never put them on the same card together.

Why the hell was Donaire never put in on Pacs events? That and PBF are the biggest stages in boxing. Instead he kept him hidden from the public fighting nobodies.

Yea JMM is on his way out and it seems that he will never get the Pac fight with anyone other than Arum. I have a feeling we will see Pac-Cotto 2 should Cotto beat Margarito though. Although i have an even bigger feeling Margarito stops Cotto again.

The ongoing fiasco that is Goldenboy vs Top Rank is playing itself out in public once again. However to say that Goldenboy are out to hurt Donaire's career...may be going a bit too far. They may very well have some sort of inside information that if this thing goes to court then the contract isn't secure. Otherwise both sides are going to lose spades full of money in court fees.

Arum has to take the bulk of the blame though. Donaire is clearly unhappy with his deal at Top Rank, so much that he is jumping ship to the rival promotional company. His alleged pay in the Montiel fight was shocking. I mean, didn't Michael Carbajal make $1 million dollars under a fight with King of all people 15 years ago at the 105 limit (not the most talked about division in boxing)? Donaire deserved much more than the 350k that was being touted on this site (same with Montiel).

Shame on golden boy for doing their job.

Not to long ago people were saying GBP was going down hill as all their prize fighters were over the hill, mosley, hopkins, barerra, marquez e.t.c

Then they came back and teamed up with Haye and Mayweather and now have Khan, Alvarez and donaire on the books.
