All I have read is that this was said to be a fix by Gans later, and some writers said that when it happened. Is this pretty much accepted like LaMotta/Fox or is it more of a disputed claim? Did McGovern ever say anything about it? What was the claim about why Gans took the dive? Money, intimidation, something else? Thanks for any input.

I've read the same but damn if it doesn't look like McGovern is nailing him repeatedly. Weird fight. Why would Gans have submitted to so much punishment? Wouldn't have been easier just to go down quickly?

The film I have shows McGovern landing a shot to the ear region just before the 1st knockdown, then Gans keens buckle, and he falls. It does not look like a fix, and shame on ref Slier for escorting a woozy Gans to his corner.

How and where do you see this?

I love Joe Gans, more than McGovern- who I know less about. But this doesn't appear like a dive at all. McGovern is nailing the **** out of him, and the reactions from Gans do not look faked.

His reactions look pitiful. I've rarely seen a more blatant dive.

Either he threw the fight or he just sucked ass and had a glass jaw. Which is it?

That effort makes Greg Louganis look like an amatuer.

Clear dive, and even if those punches DID hurt Gans.... It's ****ing Terry McGovern. He was a murderous puncher. You can still take damage and throw a fight,. Otherwise it isn't convincing...

Exactly, his reactions look pitiful, as tho he were stung and had his equilibrium ****ed up. He's clearly hurt when getting KD'd. The only way the KD's could be faked was that he allowed himself to get hit and hurt... because he is obviously hurt.

Thanks for the comments. There must not have been much said about it, I guess. I know what it looks like but, yeah, strange acting choice.

a second round KO was such an anomaly in gans' career. either this is an emphatic, legitimate win, or the great gans took a dive. when you take the film into account, i'd start to lean towards the latter...

Well... if Hatton did this to Floyd and Floyd became $50 million richer and boxing got banned in the city it was held in... I bet in 100 years people who didn't live thru it would say that was a real KO also!

Gans threw a fight. I can't see this happening to the Gans I saw in the Nelson and Herman bouts.
