Round 8

The two swap vicious punches, nearly stepping on each other's toes as their lead feet stay close together. Hopkins lands a nice left hook during one exchange. Solomon is taking a bit of a breather on the outside after things settle down in the second minute. Solomon inches his way inside without punching and Hopkins clinches him eagerly. The two spin each other around and dig a few stomach shots in. Hopkins throws a straight right but Solomon counters with a 1-2 before they fall into another clinch. Hopkins tries to bring his overhand right around to punch out of it, but misses wide.

Round 9

Solomon hops and rocks back and forth between his rear and lead foot, leaning his body away and to the right. Hopkins doesn't even try to throw anything with Solomon in his tricky defensive posture. Solomon comes forward without a jab and gets grabbed by Hopkins, who starts to shoeshine the body and slap him behind the head. They are broken up, and Solomon blocks an overhand right. Hopkins throws a left hook to the body and clinches again. Hopkins is ineffective but outworking Solomon this round. Hopkins throws a 1-2 that doesn't land but carries him inside. Lots more clinching.

I like how many people here know nothing of Bernard Hopkins' aggressiveness in most of his prime.

 

they should have been telling Demetrius to throw the jab more since the begeinning. They didnt give him much actual instruction except to fight harder.

 

these guys can't infight for ****, just hugging and some kidney punches.

Solomon uses some fancy footwork to jump around Hopkins, changing directions and springing with quick stutter-steps and getting Hopkins a bit twisted up. Solomon lead with a right hand and is intercepted by a clinching Hopkins. Solomon crouches off to his right and jabs to the body. Hopkins tries a 1-2 but watches as Solomon just escapes low to the ground by scurrying off to the side. Hopkins clinches and Solomon works the body. Hopkins tries to plant a hook into Solomon's cheek but catches glove instead. Solomon is tapping Hopkins in the side of the head with his right hand while Hopkins buries his head in his chest and pushes him back while pinning his left. Hopkins tries to load up a big 1-2 but can't find Solomon's skull. Hopkins lands a hook just before the bell.

Well, I might not rewatch this but I'm tired of young fighters not giving their all in fights. At least a very young B hop tried against RJJ but he got outfoxed. Demetrius didn't try at all and showed no desire to take this fight. He fought like he was losing and showed no way to adapt.

 

Hopkins just ****ed his career with tonight's performance.
