This is in responce to the legions of people who keep saying this like OnePunch here. See below.

    - in 2006 and in his 4th pro fight Pirog beats Tatevosyan who was 25-5 and Russian MW Champion. Tatevosyan would go on to fight Froch and Bute after he lost to Pirog

    - Jacobs- in spite of how everyone dismisses this win and Jacobs himself it is still a solid win against a talented up and coming MW who himself had beat some solid pros

    - Jantuah - Pirog scored a shutout vs a 35 year old but still very tough Kofi. Equal to or perhaps even better than his win over Jacobs,

    - Kodzoev Ajetovic Toygonbaev are solid wins against what i'd describe as gatekeeper level.

Ajetovic's went the distance against Pirog, Macklin, Geale who are his only losses.

Kodzoev has only lost against Pirog, Rubio and Tsypko back in 2001 (who was a top 10 SMw for quite a while)

Toygonbaev is tough fighter with a solid punch

    - Mitchell and Melis are decent journeymen

Pirog has a solid resume especially for someone with 17 fights and is just as accomplished as almost everyone that Martinez is saying he is willing to fight and is clearly more talented. He would be an actual challenge and he is a real MW unlike everyone else with the exception of Zbik or Chavez neither of which are elite MW's.

Martinez himself hadn't accomplished a whole lot before his fight against a former Champion in Cintron or Williams but was given a chance mostly because people could see that he was talented and had an exciting style.

    you clearly missed the point

Martinez is on top of the world right now and wants to make MONEY...there is no money with Pirog and too much risk. And yes, he still needs to build up his resume a bit. Period. Full stop.

Better than Manfredo, better than Dzinziruk. Pirog in the last few months alone has created more interest around him than Dzinziruk did in an entire career. Why were HBO so keen on Dzinziruk anyway?

Pirog needs a big name win to get out of that high risk low reward category, martinez has pavlik and williams, were looking at pirog because now its time to step up and make yourself known, at his age he needs to increase his activity he will win next week, fight williams or another big name at 160 win and martinez will make sense. Sergio vs dmitry early 2012 make it happen!

in all honesty, i jumped out of my seat when pirog landed that right hand that knocked jacobs out. i'd like to see the guy more. but lets be objective here, he hasnt done **** and it appears that they havent tried to do **** since then. sergio is 36 years old and dmitry is 31(?)...why would you expect sergio, who is the jmw/mw king to entertain fighting him when he himself hasnt done a damn thing to capitalize on his win?

the jacobs win was impressive but he hasnt done anything and to be honest...most mw's would have left jacobs slumped in a corner that night as well. he was backing up in straight lines just asking for that overhand right. sergio, aa, kelly, gg, matty, hell even lemieux would have turned his light out as well.

you wanna get yours in this game you gotta strike while the iron is hot and what has his team done?

martinez would destroy jacobs and he would destroy pirog. at this stage in sergio's career it makes more sense for him to go after cotto, pbf, etc...

can't say i agree w/ manfredo though. that would be a slaughter.

Because they just lost their biggest names to Showtime and they're trying to create buzz around Sergio as a p4p guy. They didn't want Pirog for the obvious reasons... he's better than Sergio and would put a stop to the gravy train before it ever gets rolling.

Listing off Pirog's opposition only works against you, man. Pirog is a ways behind a whole lot of guys when determining who deserves the fight, unless you're looking for an obscure European that few know of and many will ridicule for being on the resume.

Same way alot claimed that Sergio had only beaten Argentinian cab drivers when he went up against Wiliams. Ignorance or prejudice doesn't negate reality.

Martinez hasn't done much either and isn't even a money-making superstar yet. his comments on Pirog isn't warranted by his level of achievements. he just made a case why big names like floyd shouldn't fight him.

Because Dzin was so much better known in the US than Pirog before HBO started pumping him up as an opponent?

    I'm not defending HBO.

I think the Dzinz win is EXTREMELY overrated. The double standard when it comes to some fighters fighting lighter/heavier opponents is mind boggling sometimes.

However, to compare Pirog's achievements to Dzinz's is a huge, huge disservice to Dzinz.

Both are better than Manfredo, by a lot.

Pirog is definitely the better middleweight, but I'm not sure he's the better p4p fighter than Dzinziruk.

Martinez-Dzinziruk at 154 back when Martinez was campaigning there would have been more competitive than Martinez-Pirog would be now, IMO.
