How can you be so decisive on the outcome? Your basing this off of a fighter who clearly has talent but hasn't fought anyone on martinez' level. It's possible that with Martinez low hands he could be caught with the same shot Jacobs got caught with yes but does that mean Martinez would have nothing to give back to trouble pirog? He's shown his punching power, speed, and precision at the weight is second to none.

That was supposed to be part of another deal like Bradley's promoter lets HBO show Bradley and HBO show Dzinziruk. I can understand Martinez not wanting the fight if no money is there but HBO or somebody could hype him up more as well.

Martinez is the ****, theres no way of getting around that, but Pirog is a legitimate threat to his position and he knows it. I can understand Martinez wanting to get a bigger named opponent to create a buzz and earn some cash but Manfredo? really? :patsch

Lou DiBella is terrified of the Russian, you could tell by the way he reacted to having someone propose a match up between his fighter and a legit 160 lber who doesn't fight in the typical upright, high guard, robotic European style. Pirog can beat Sergio and Lou knows it. Hopefully Martinez can get his big payday but I know for a fact it isn't named Manfredo Jr.Sergio doesn't need a soft touch, his last two fights were dominant victories. If he's really that good he doesn't need to be beating up on past-prime contender finalists, he should go get his belt back if he's as butthurt about it as Lou is.

Is there a source from martinez' camp saying the fight with manfredo is the one he's taking? The names I've heard from Sergio are Miguel cotto manny pacquiao floyd mayweather. The only time I've seen manfredo mentioned is from Peter himself and I think that's wishful thinking. I'll stand corrected if there's something I've missed.

Lou is considering it and he also promotes Manfredo Jr.

if pirog would get off his ass and actually do something things may change. pirog knocked out a very green, very young fighter who was begging for that right hand. what has he done to capitalize on that? martinez is 36 years old and while he seems to be in peak form, he's not getting any younger. is it really that big of a surprise that a guy who has fought in relative obscurity wants to fight big money fights now that he's the champ? pirog is not a big money fight at this point for sergio. i would love to see it and so would real boxing fans, but it won't bring in the kind of numbers martinez is going to be looking for. not saying its right or wrong but it seems thats just the way it is.

Cannot believe Manfredo is being considered as decent opposition for any top 10 middleweight, the guy just isn't in that league, never has, never will be. :rasta

Article from the Scene. I would like to see him do something too, and I'm sure Pirog wants the same.

he is in kind of the same position sergio was in a few years ago. and i know his options are limited but you gotta do something. i'm not saying he should jump in the ring after a martinez victory and get in his face and call him out a la shane mosley but you gotta do something. hell, sergio moved up on short notice and fought paul williams. maybe dmitry needs to fight a smw at some 164ish catchweight or something.

i'm not trying to rip on him...i want to see him more active is all.

I agree with his guy,V. I think it's clear Sergio has not much time left. Those are solid wins that Pirog has, but what Sergio clearly got to the point was he'd fight anyone if the $$$ was right. He is looking for and deserves the big payday. He knows he won't be fighting past 40 so time is golden for him than most. That's understandable.

Yes, Pirog is bettr than Manfredo but Dzin? That is maybe up for debate but the real point is......that Sergio wants the money now that he is on TOP! Very few fighters get to the TOP and when they do all they want are the money fights. Sergio doesn't have the much time left, so a fight with Pirog will only set him back and even worst lose his momemtum if he were to lose.

While pirog should in all right on paper be the next in line to fight martinez,
he doesn't yet deserve the fight. As for pirog not "doing" anything since
the jacobs KO, it's not been a year FFS and he has a mando due, so chill
the **** out. Therefore, pirog does need to build up a status to make a fight with the true champ lucrative for the champ. At 36, sergio has a small window to lobby for a massive paycheck, and pirog could disrupt
those plans. However, if sergio is unsuccessful in winning the bid for a
pac, pbf, or cotto fight and the russky is making headlines then the fight makes sense for all involved. I'd like for HBO to put together a pirog/kirkland fight, thus the winner would be the consensus #1 contender
and a money generator as well as legacy builder for sergio to capitalize on. As for now, there's just nothing in it for martinez.

So now money is a valid reason for dismissing guys?

I would love to hear your take on Mayweather not fighting Margarito and Cotto. :think
