Very surprised at that result, Luke Robinson must have improved somewhat in the last few years.

 

what happens when you pot on 50-50s and 60-40s throughout the show like Spencer Fearon

 

was a really disappointing night for me. rushed from work to get there for 6.30,only to find that we were atill sitting there at 8pm waiting for the first fight.why don't they just tell you the truth about what's (not) going on? only ended up with 4 bouts instead of the advertised 6, and still don't know why!
sad to see mcdonagh and graham lose inthe way they did. looked like 1 fight too far for mcdonagh and that's be a sad way for him to end. have seen most of nathan's fights and anwar was a couple of levels above anyone he's faced before. was very impressed with him, and for someone who was rumoured to miss a few training sessions anwar was still bouncing around in the 10th. would liek to seehim again and would guess he's at least at the level of a regional title? simply far too good and too clever and too quick for nathan, who must've been gutted to get stopped with only 40 seconds left, although it was the right decision
thought ochieng was surprisingly poor. seemed quite happy to stay pinned on the ropes.
didn't think robinson was owt special, although he was the one doing most of the attacking/pressurising. davies had a rel eye opener to pro boxing with the lithuanian clowning his way through the first 3 rounds. took a while for davies to work out what was going on, but had settled into it by the 4th.
btw spencer seems to be successfully exploiting a litle niche in the market, coz the york hall was packed (and a great atmosphere) for a distinctly average bill. he seems to pick boxers who have a little bit of ability(balkan champ/aba semi finallist/ 1 time england international etc etc) , not top rate but better than the run of the mill pros and who also sell tickets. the fights are usually competitive so you usually get value for money.

 

Went to this on Friday and thought that, despite just being a 4 fight card and a much, though possibly planned to generate atmosphere, later start than advertised, it was one of the best shows I have attended in a while.

McDonagh was never really in it and it should have been stopped a lot earlier. In fact a McDonagh fan, possibly a family memebr, remostrated with his corner from the balcony to stop it a couple of rounds befor the end. He actually came down to ringside and obviously caused some disturbance and the bouncers were all over him.

Anwar was class and fully deserved his victory. Nathan was poor, though game, but seemingly had no balance and fell out of the ring twice. I disagee with Harry as although there were a mere 40 seconds left he was easily 6-7 rounds down and getting battered. The boxer's safety must always take precedence over their pride.

I will also, albeit slightly, disagree with Harry again regarding Ochieng. I thought both guys were decent, though not showing any signs of any greatness to come, and I though Ochering just nicked it 39-38. That said, the official 39-38 to Robinson was not a bad scoring of the fight either.

Davies, btw, is one to look out for. One of the best debuts I have attended for some time and I think he has potential. Just needs to work on the defence a bit...

All in all a great show and I'm unlikely to miss a Spencer Fearon show in London from now on. I also honestly recommend all to try and attend one as they are something special.

 

I also went. i suspect the late start was due to several fights which were on the bill failing to materialise. not that long ago there was talk of choi and a couple of others fighting.

york hall was packed and was a really good atmosphere. shame there was only 4 fights but thoroughly enjoyed them all. the big difference is as spencer says he tries to make all hios matches competitive.

anwar was good and defo was well up by end. graham never gave up but seemed to be switching a lot more than ive seen of him before. i think from very early doors he found anwars style was too much and awkward for him. the shots that put him down didnt look that huge so maybe question marks over his chin. or was he drained to make welterweight?

thought the fight with eagle vs the lion was very close and maybe a draw would have been fairest result. i didnt actually score it but robinson clearly won first round and all rest you could have made case for either boxer.

hamilton took mcdonagh apart. i thought hamilton would struggle but he won every round comfortably and i dont remember mcdonagh landing anything of note in 8 rounds. i suspect he didnt prepare as well as he might have done....

all in all a good night and worth the money. i will be attending!

 

Forgot to add that after the last fight Spencer addressed the audience and thanked them all for attending. It seemed a very genuine gratitude as well.

Honestly, get yourself down to the next Hard Knocks show you can make.

 

didn't see the fracas, but it was sad to see mcdonagh like that, especially after we'd seen him put up such a decent show against gavin. i think spencer said that the winner would get a shot against theophane? if so i can only see an easy night's work for theophane. sorry mate but you've misread me ,coz i actually said that i thought the ref made the right decision, nathan's legs had gone and he didn't really know where he was; just think his pride will have been hurt by being so close to going the distance. how far do you think anwar can go? he was much, much better than i thought he would be and a different class to nathan. that's the poorest i've evr seen him but i suspect that was because anwar made him look bad.
i expected a bit more from ochieng; thought he'd get the verdict as he was the home fighter and looked like he missed less than robinson, but robinson never backed down and always tried to come forward.
will keep an eye out on davies for the future- the lithuanian was certainly an interesting opponent to have first time out!
i suppose it was a great show - took my daughter for her first ever live boxing and she really enjoyed it. it wasn't so god for me coz i was willing o mcdonagh and graham to do well and both lost in disappointing ways

 

paying 30 squid for 4 bouts with c level fighters ,i think not ......this 50/50 thing is gonna ruin young fighters careers,what for penuts.

I'm not sure Anwar can go much further to be honest. However, Davies and Hamilton are definitly ones to look out for. The latter though shouldn't be thrown in with Theophane for a good 5-6 fights, possibly more.

 

Its all realitive...

It can cost up to £60 to watch a top flight football match and I can spend a lot more than £30 on a "quiet night" down the local.

It was good value for money.

 

depends what you mean by 'c' level fighters - that was the point i was making about spencer's 'stable' ;his boxers are slightly above the bog standard level - he seems to be getting hold of 'rough diamonds' who have a little potential. they probably won't make it all the way, but he'll get lucky with one of them one day.
the other thing is that they all sell tickets ,so there's always a good, passionate crowd (especially when he gets his albanian lad on the bill!).
also wouldn't call mcdonagh,choi or the dutch lad who was supposed to fight on friday as c level

Pedicted the Eagle would lose soon as he looked extremely average when I saw him.
