mate do you bother researching fighters before buying a
PPV or heading down to your pub/club to watch a fight?
there was plenty wrong with Flores besides being
inactive for 15 months look at the record/ rankings of his 4 previous opponents before Danny.

offered incentives for him to come in light and its
a **** poor choice.but he looked good to the casual
fans and Bogans because hes young, undefeated etc.

Not many posters around here saw Flores as anything less than worthy choice of opponent at the time Stiffy.

A number of regular posters here, such as TC and Biajoli, actually backed him. Biajoli claiming to have had a few grand on Flores.

Seems Danny Weidler is talking similar stuff to what I've been saying. Green vs. Wood being mooted or Wood vs. Mandy if Mandy wins version II.

Make no mistake, it'd be denied, but Green made an offer to Wood's people about 6-8 weeks ago, but it was withdrawn once Wood vs. Mandy II look set to finalise.

Taken from today's Sydney's - The Sun Herald

    THE FORGOTTEN MAN

MAIN EVENT is starting to woo Garth Wood, with a possible fight at the end of the year - and Danny Green being targeted as the man to take him on.

With Wood set to fight Anthony Mundine on April 13, it appears that executives at Foxtel are predicting Wood will win the fight.

The rush for the network to give Wood a December 8 fight - their prime date of the year - says a number of things: they feel Wood is the next big thing in Australian boxing and that Mundine is on the way out.

The treatment of Mundine is shabby; he has made huge amounts of money for the network but clearly they are keen to see the back of him. They are banking on Wood v Green to bring in millions to the network, something that Mundine has been doing for years.

If Green is to fight Wood, they would need to overcome a major weight difference. Green has been telling anyone who'll listen in boxing circles that the lightest he can fight at is 83 kilograms.

Wood is due to fight Mundine at 72kg. I bumped into Green at Star City a couple of weeks ago and talked to him about the illness he has overcome, and he said that day he was 83kg, so it's a weight he can make without an issue. Perhaps his best hope of a fight would be to take on Wood at 80kg.

Or a Mundine victory would mean that we could see Mundine-Wood III.

Had a look back at the Green v Flores thread and it's surprising how many posters thought Flores would win, and quite a few said they were going to, or had already backed Flores.

Rightly or wrongly the marketing for the Green v Flores fight was very effective, and most people swollowed it hook, line and sinker!

I only added that Biajoli claimed to have backed Flores in my earlier post for a laugh mate.

Loved it when Biajoli started the thread 'challenging' me to debate Mundine with him. Biajoli poured his little heart out with such great passion, but with so little substance it was embarrassing.

at face value it seemed Flores would be a stern test.
Dany's last few fights were hardly competitive and
    BJ was a young,undefeated true CW.Danny was 84kg
against BRIGGS and i suppose people thought BJ
would monster him.but BJ's previous opponents had
    very poor records.

If Woods woops Mandy again, watch Green vs Woods happen. Sad part is Danny will fck him up and get alot of credit in doing so. Garth is tailor made for Danny, Danny will cut him to peices, unlike Mundine who needs to prance around and finds it akward going toe to toe with Woods, Green will be so comfortable and so strong Woods will fall like a tree.

Best part about it is the money they will make, main event know it and Green/Woods knows it, Mundine knows it, this fight is a big big one for Mundine, if he doesnt win he is out of the race for a few million dollars in a pay day with Woods III or Eventually Green II.

The majority of the betting market in Australia are pretty naive when it comes to boxing. I'd say they all would have backed Flores simply because he was at such long odds, and people thought it was well worth the risk.

In reality, he was paying about the same price as Briggs probably was, and the same price as Matumla was when he fought Mundine. The difference is that when people see Matumla, they see Eric the Eel on welfare, but when they see the American who is undefeated and all built up in the media, they think it's a genuine bet.

My take on the selection of opponent is...
When Green had his pants pulled down and name turned to mud after the Briggs fiasco, he felt determined to pay back his fans and get some much needed respect. Instead of fighting a champ or a legitimate contender, he hand picks a padded guy who's not in the top 15. If thats Green's big mighty step into the deep end, well I have to say that I'm quite underwhelmed.

    that's UTTER RUBBISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

there was NOTHING WRONG with flores as an opponent.

u can pick apart whatever the crap u want, but flores was a respectible opponent. get off your crusade and give credit where due ffs. yes it would have been preferred if danny took on one of the other title holders, but it wasn't to be.

lets get one thing straight i'm not saying it was the best choice, but he was a credible opponent.

15 months previous Mendoza rank 216 today
    21st March 2009 Hererra rank 103 today
21st Jan 2009 Hicks HW rank 411 today
after these stellar victories im not surprised Danny made
BJ weigh in the lightest weight of his career and took his 0.
Buster you've convinced me.credit where due.
    GO GREENY:bbb
