How Would Holmes Have Done If He Fought These Guys

This is not a particularly impresive list.

I think he would have beaten all of these guys. Granted, many of them would have been close decisions, but none would have resulted in Holmes losing his title either.

 

Holmes trashes all of these guys. Big chance he gets floored by one/all of them, though, but he'd get up to win. They wouldn't be boring fights, that's for sure

 

they would have all been good fights. A prime, motivated, non drug version of Thomas or Dokes would have been a tough night for Larry. Not that Larry most likely wouldn't have been too good for him.

 

Weaver deserved rematch very much, can't say who would have won. Greg Page was better than Holmes, which is why Holmes never fought him

 

I guess we're all entitled to our opinions, but do you really feel that Page was better than Holmes? After all, Holmes beat a fairly good version of Trevor Berbick, who in turn beat an 18-0 Page. Not to mention, Page would later lose to Bey and Witherspoon. Plus, Pages' best wins were arguably against Coetzee and Snipes. Nuff said. If you ask me, Holmes ducking of Page was more related to Don King politics more so than cold feet.

 

In particular,I hope Greg Page is recovering.Anyway,in the above list-or off it-I think Page is one of those guys that had the potential to be the greatest heavyweight ever.Like a lot of heavys of the recent past,he obviously lacks the consistency to be considered an all time great.I first saw him as am amateur,well before he would've gone to the Olympics-and my impression then was that he'd rather be doing something else.But,he was bigger and probably faster than the other "greatest" from Louisville.He could upset a lot of people if an actual tournament was held.

 

I think he beats them all, but struggles.

I thought Carl Williams might have been robbed though.

 

Imo, he beats them all, but Thomas would definitely be a tough test.

I think he would lose one or two. Maybe not even because he's the lesser man, but because he was aging a bit by 83-84, when Thomas was at his peak. I think Thomas could've won the championship if he was given a chance.

Coetzee and Dokes probably lose.. Page would give Holmes a lot of trouble as would Weaver (see the first fight), but would probably lose. I don't think Tate would win either.

Witherspoon could definitely win though (he's not on the list), with a few more fights under his belt by 83-84.

 

Holmes would probably beat all of them, but Page, the '83 version, if he trained and came in at 225-216, and was motivated, could probably score an upset.

 

Beats all of them. He damn near fought Coetzee, it got called off a month before fight night. There is a poster in Larry's gym of those 2 fighting. It was supposed to be on June 6, 1984 (some time in early June at least). It has a picture of Coetzee and Larry throwing jabs at each other. Done by the same guy who did the Cooney-Holmes poster. Page gives him the best fight. Larry beats Weaver more convincingly in the rematch. Tate is out classed, and Dokes and Page lose close, but clear decisions.

 

Why do you think he gets floored? He had an iron chin. He tooks some of Shavers hardest shots, and even Shavers hardest looping right couldn't keep Larry down for good. It took Snipes's best sunday punch to drop Larry, and it took several of Tyson's hardest shots.
