any thoughs or blast at this post?

  2. Cooney by kayo .
Times have changed , and i do put more stock , into the power of Cooney .
Primo was basically 1 big circus freak ,
    with no power 4 ,
his size , and rly , not a lot of wepons other then 1 jab .
Cooney s hook wud do it 4 me imo but it cud go either way aswell ,
both men , were , highly , inconsistent tall white boys .

I would favour Carnera, based on the fact that he delivered more when the chips were down.

carnera was not that bad, he got past a lot of beter fighters than cooney ever beat. sharkey, paulino uzcudun, laughran, godfrey, neausel and schaff, Only the two most devastating punchers realy knocked primo out so I think putting cooney up there with joe louis and max baer is going it a bit strong. He certainly would not look so clumsy against a fighter nearer his own size. Maybe cooney does well against primo but he just dont have enough form to gaurantee anything.

I don't put a lot of stock in Carnera beating those guys you mentioned.. A fair number of them wouldn't even have been heavyweights in Cooney's era, or would have just barely made the limit.. They were also for the most part, white men who rarely fought or defeated quality black men, and as prejudice as it may sound, I think it makes a difference.. In addition, the jury has always been out on Primo for being involved in fixed fights, leaving questions as to how good he really was. As for Carnera only being destroyed by Louis and Baer, well lets not forget that Louis had barely been a pro for a year, and Baer, though dangerous had far less skill than Cooney, who at least knew how to spell the word "jab." Larry Holmes was a far, far better fighter than anyone Primo ever defeated, and even fought for that matter, including the very green version of louis who killed him ( not the champion of years later. ) Cooney took a peak Holmes 13 rounds, and arguably won perhaps 5 of them.... A 31 year old Jimmy Young was also better than a fair number of people Carnera stepped in the ring with... Carnera was also overly accustomed to having a huge size advantage over his foes, wheras the size gap between Cooney and his opponents was not quite so wide. Gerry's left hook, left jab, and even powerful right would land often, and frankly i don't see carnera holding up for long...

    Carnera would beat him.
    Just too strong for Cooney.

there are a lot of "hindsight henrys" out there writing carnera off whilst putting so much faith in a fighter who never reached his full potential in his own lifetime. using hindsight in one hand against one guy whilst using a crystal ball to promote the other...

Primo via points or late stoppage, if I had to pick.

Cooney certainly had the firepower to chop him down by the mid rounds though, if he got off to a cooking start and got the punishment going early.

****ey by stoppage, he gave Holmes a decent fight, and he takes Carnera's head off at some point here.
