Prime Liddell fought in a much different era...an era where being great at one thing could you make you a champion. Jones has way more tools at his disposal than Chuck ever did.

It's like saying a prime Hughes versus a prime GSP. There's just too much evolution.

:good yea as much as i like liddell i think jones would be too much for him. I do give him that puncher's chance but not much else. I expect this fight to stay standing since liddell got a good takedown defense but jones long reach and unorthodox style will be too much for liddell.

Liddell striking is average but he does have the power to knock jones out.

Jones would destroy Liddell. Chuck got trashed by Rampage in his prime, he would not have been able to cope with Jones.

I don't view the first Rampage fight a prime chuck.

    That's dumb then.

The Rampage fight was in 2003.

Chuck only started as pro in 1998.

So he went from green to pre-prime to prime to past-prime all within 5 years? :huh

Chuck was only 34 in 2003, and he'd only had 15 fights. Not exactly war-torn, was he?

The Rampage fight was immediately after he knocked out Alistair Overeem in 3minutes, and before he went on to record fantastic stoppages over Couture twice and Ortiz twice.

Saying he was no longer prime by the 1st Rampage fight??

    Fail.

Interesting because Chuck had bombs but good tdd. Jones would be the favourite but Chuck is a live fighter.

You misunderstood me. He hadn't peaked yet. He was a late peaking fighter. Do you consider Pac's loss to Morales a peak Manny? No.

Liddell is always a threat with his strikes as of course he can punch with his left or right as hard as anyone in the sport p4p. How he lands that punch is the tough part. Chuck does best when guys come after him and aside from when Jon Jones does his special moves like flying knees and things like that he doesnt come forward much unless of course he has his opponet hurt. Chuck could go after him but how does he get past that reach ? How does anyone at 205 ?

If Bones wants to take it the ground then he probably will. Liddell has some of the greatest takedown defense in MMA history but Jones might just be the best wrestler we have seen and im serious about that his technique is beautiful. Chuck might get up but after the 2nd and 3rd time hes going to gas out alittle and once he does it looks like the 1st Rampage and Couture fights.

i think he would have a better chance than any other guy at 205 at the minute. i want to see jones deal with a striker who has great take down defense. and liddell fits that. i dont know if he could have pulled it off as in his prime it was a different era. but i do know he would have done alot better than shogun did last night.

Chuck had good TDD, but Bones doesn't just shoot basic doubles and singles. His takedowns are hard to defend.

Jones would dismantle Liddell warming up and then he'd really get going.

:deal Plus Chuck made a career feasting on wrestlers who really couldn't challenge him in the striking department. Much the same way Chuck struggled with Overeem's length in the GP is the same way he'd struggle with Jones and be on the end of an eventual KO.

Fight wouldn't even be close, Jones by destruction.
