Odlanier Solis Wants a Vitali Klitschko Rematch

    On Saturday night in Cologne (Germany) WBC no. 1 rated heavyweight Odlanier Solis was stopped on his way to dethroning champion Vitali Klitschko by a serious knee injury. "La Sombra" was brought to hospital directly after the fight where an anterior cruciate ligament rupture, articular cartilage damage and meniscal tear in the right knee were diagnosed. "I haven’t seen a knee torn apart like this in a long time", senior physician Dr. Joern Michael stated after doing an arthroscopy.

    Solis will most probably undergo surgery on Thursday at the clinic of knee specialist Dr. Jürgen Eichhorn who was recommended to Solis and promoter Ahmet Oner by Prof. Walter Wagner, head of the German boxing commission’s medical department.

    "We want to guarantee the best possible treatment for Solis", says Oner. "It is our goal to bring him back to the ring as soon as possible. But of course only if he is 100 percent fit and ready to fight."

    Oner hopes that Vitali Klitschko will give his mandatory challenger another shot at the title after the unfortunate accident of last Saturday. "Vitali knows exactly what it means to lose a fight due to an injury", adds Oner. "He has been asking Lennox Lewis for a re-match for years and years and it didn’t materialize. We hope that Vitali will not put Solis in a similar situation like he has been in. Solis has earned a second chance."

    Most sepctators saw Solis winning the first round against Vitali before hurting his knee when he accidentally fell on it after Vitali had caught him off-balaance with a flash knockdown.

    "I was just unlucky", says Solis. "I didn’t even feel the shot that he landed on me and it certainly did not take me out. I felt that there was something wrong with my leg and I lost my balance. When I went down I knew immediately that there was something wrong. I promise that I will be back soon and even stronger – if I get a second chance I will win the title."

    At the time of the stoppages the odds had dropped from 7:1 for a Solis win to only 2:1 after "La Sombra" had connected with some nice clean shots and accurate counter punches. There were more than 1 billion Euro bet on the fight worldwide.

    "The world was watching and waiting for Vitali Klitschko to be dethroned", says Oner. "The first round was exactly as we had promised: exciting, spectacular and competitive heavyweight boxing on a very high level. I think the was the fight started calls for a re-match."

    If the knee surgery goes on as planned Solis would be able to start rehab training immediately and be ready to fight again in six to nine months. "Hopefully against Vitali again", states Oner.

    **** Solis.

    His camp admitted they knew that he had a knee injury, but they still continued with the fight because of the huge payout. Solis should have done the honorable thing and postponed it until he was healthy.

    I hope he goes back to fighting nobodies and never gets a shot at a big fight again.

    ACL, Miniscal tearing???? he's not fighting for another year. Add to the fact that a lot of athletes fail to come back after such injuries. Its mostly psychological, but really hard to shake off.

    Solis will not be in the gym for at least 6, maybe 8 months. He will probably gain 100 lbs.

    He is out for one full year, then another 6-12 months to be in fighting shape. Vitali will be 42 by then and retired.

    I hate the HW division. for once it looked like somebody actually was going to get inside Vitali and do some damage than Odlanier goes Yuri Foreman on us.

    His fault for coming in fat. Would it have still happened if he was 10-25lbs lighter? Maybe. Would he have minimized the strain on his knees if he was lighter? Definitely.

    Vitaly knows what its like to win an event but not the title, if he was a real man then he would grant Solis his rematch which would be the fight of the summer in 2012. He has shared a ring with Solis for 3 minutes now and i have a feeling that he has seen enough to know that the man is an ATG EVT winner and he should not go anywhere near him again.

    First Solis has to recover. With an injury like that you can doubt that he will ever be the same. I hope he can come back, it would be a waste if not. He looked promising in that first and only round with Klitschko.

    Now something else:
    The promoter's request towards Klitschko to give Solis a rematch is ignorant and impudent. Öner and some others around Solis knew about a knee injury Solis already had before the fight. And nevertheless they sent him into the ring,
    1.) risking the whole event and finally blowing it
    2.) giving a **** on the paying audience
    2.) trashing many weeks of intensive preparation on both sides
    3.) risking and possibly destroying Solis' carreer

    Those very same assholes now request a rematch from Klitschko. What a joke! You can't be less deserving than they are.

    That fat **** Solis came into the match knowing that he was injured. If he wanted to beat Vitali, he should have laid off the Twinkies and actually came into the match fit.
