Why is Mayorga being overrated so much lately?

I know he is a cool dude and is funny as hell but did i watch a different fight??

The Cotto fight just showed he was way past it. His shots were wide as hell sometimes looked like slaps and he quit at the end. I thought he looked bad but its not his fault really he is an older guy who always had bad technique but why is everyone acting like he is a top guy???

Because he's a good self-promoter, and he's Well-Connected. He had one big fight, over Vernon Forrest, and that's all. I don't think he truly won the rematch, but he's been up and down -mostly down- ever since. People are excited by his personality I think....as a fighter, he's just as crude as his mouth.

Well yea thats what im saying. He is just a good entertainer but he really does not win the big fights. I think its laughable people are picking him against Canelo or Margarito or Mosley based on his fight against Cotto. If anything thats just more evidence to how far he is gone now. Specially with his style. That style has shown to lead to concussive KOs once the reflexes start to go.

He's good excitement and is willing to fight everyone while giving it his all. Yeah Cotto toke him to school but Mayorga won 3 rounds at most and both gave an entertaining bout. I do think his performance from the Mosley fight gets overrated as past the early rounds Mosley figured him out and was beating him to the punch with some nice hooks & straights. No way should he have been leading in that fight on any card as he only won 4 rounds at max. Mayorga is a tough customer and has the style to give problems to anyone even now as a gatekeeper.

You would say that, my perspective on things is the fact that he looked dedicated to coming in great shape and while he has depreciated he's still quite difficult to handle because of his unortho ways with a quick trigger and heavy hands.

Like Vince said, he's a good self-promoter and he's entertaining.. He did train very hard for his fight against Cotto, he's a very dangerous opponent, and people love his acts and **** talking.. I just think that people like him because of this, so they try to give him an edge in any fight they imagine, but he's so far past his prime.. He should just go ahead and retire..

The fact he even made it into the 12th round with Cotto, having taken as much punishment as he has, living the lifestyle he does, being fairly inactive, and being fairly close to 40 years old, imo, is somewhat impressive in itself. I think Mayorga didnt do that bad all things considered. But the man is done, and has been done, and should hang them up, like I have been saying for awhile now.

    Just IMO

why are you putting Canelo alongside Cotto and Margarito?

I don't understand why Canelo is being so overrated. Who has the beat?

Cotto looked good out there and Mayorga took the necessary risk and used a style that could take advantage of Cotto, but Cotto was too polished.

I thought Mayorga looked good that fight, but Cotto looked great.

He says Mayorga is being overrated because people, like me, have suggested that Mayorga would cause Álvarez some troubles if they fought right now, and he would also mop the floor with Chávez Jr.

I believe both facts to be correct.
