BJW is the hardest punching WW ever. Yes, harder than hearns or trinidad or anyone else. He was able to KO LHWs cold....Think about that. Britton was a very skilled boxer with a great peak run. McLarnin is the old school pacquiao, beating good fighters from bantam to WW, KOing Young Corbett III in a single round, a great puncher overall. Walcott http://coxscorner.tripod.com/walcott.html http://cyberboxingzone.com/boxing/walcott-j.htm Jack Britton http://cyberboxingzone.com/boxing/britton-j.htm http://www.ibhof.com/pages/about/inductees/oldtimer/britton.html Jimmy McLarnin http://www.eastsideboxing.com/news.php?p=5454&more=1 http://cyberboxingzone.com/boxing/mclarnin.htm Sadly the only one we have footage of is McLarnin. EDIT: LOL at ODLH being on any top ten WW list.
it doesnt have a proven date on it and even if it is from 147 it is only a few clips not enough to judge a great fighter
Cheers for that man. Will probably have a further look into the three of them once the I've finished my dissertation and research into Jose Napoles. I mean its all well and good me saying that Leonard is the best welterweight I have ever seen but I don't want to say he is the best when theres such a wealth of history in this division (I actually prefer watching Napoles footage over Leonard footage now I've had a good look at Mantequilla). The de la Hoya thing was all in jest my friend, everyone knows he isn't top 10 at 147...that is because he is the greatest fighter of all time at 135 and 140.
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlWPTK1eYVo[/ame] Ross-Maclarnin good for thier time, would get murdered today.
Robinson never lost at 147 & was a better fighter than Leonard + had more fights & wins at the weight. Robinson is no1 at WW.
By who? The lightweight champion who's a blown up 37 year old featherweight? The WW #1 who was a former flyweight and hasn't taken on a guy at the top of his game for years now? or maybe featherweight cuban and puerto rican who are too wuss to fight each other, or aren't allowed to? Maybe another guy that's on vacation? No triple crown champions get murdered in today's era. Maybe they'd have trouble in one of the tougher WW divisions of the 40-50's or 90's because they were smaller men. Mantequilla has a great style, no? I think you would like Luis Rodriguez as well who is also top 10 material at WW. I hope you're joking about Hoya there btw
He's having problems(regardless who's fault it is) facing Pacquiao do you really think he would face prime killers in SRL or SRR? I think not and I'm a fan of his. I don't even rank him that high as a WW because he hasn't proven much. He's undefeated in this era for a reason and hasn't shown us anything to suggest that he could be competitive against Napoles, Hearns, SRL, SRR, Armstrong, etc. Floyd is too overrated and if he doesn't face Pacquiao I'm not holding him high on any fantasy matchup against TRUE WW ATGs who proved themselves much more. SRL never had the dominance that Napoles had, that should come into consideration. It's not like he fought pushovers either and he regained the crown even in his later years. I have him over Leonard. Thank you, a guy that did research. For me he's no less than 6 or 7. Lol at people think Leonard's the GOAT or #2. Talk about nostalgic glasses. Again, congrats for doing some research.
Top 3. He beat the greatest lw of all time in a division Duran turned out to be a great welterweight too. Both could hold their own vs larger, bigger men. Beating 2 atgs like Hearns and Duran it doesnt get better than that, but to be fair, Duran was at his peak at 135 while to me Hearns was at his best at 154. Both had good campaigns at 147 before running into srl.
His style is brilliant to watch, he is just so fluid in everything he does and his offensive nothing short of beautiful. I'd never actually heard of Rodriguez until his name was post a page or two ago. Napoles maybe the best fighter to watch that I have ever come across in some sort of detail.
lol Especially on this forum. But like you say it's fun trying. That is why this sport is so great, because there are so many intangibles to ponder. We get attached to fighters we like and generally disregard the ones we don't, i suppose it's human nature, but some take it to the extreme on here. Personally i have learned to give every fighter i see a fair go and respect any man who sets foot in the ring, because it takes a special breed of person to do so. For instance i didn't like SRL when i was young, but not once did i lie and try and tell myself he wasn't any good, because he so obviously was. I now know he is the best fighter i have seen. A lot of people on here (especially young ones) think you can only be an ATG if you have a lengthy career or a certain amount of wins, when some times it's just the case of fighting a two or three men. And with SRL it is definitely quality over quantity. I will also say he is one of the most likable men in the sport and is a true superstar with class to match. I understand SRR will always be greater from the footage i've seen and the way he is talked off by people in high regard, and who's opinions are worth something. But in my lifetime SRL is the best i have seen, and probably always will be. At the moment Floyd and Pacquiao blow my mind for different reasons and both are now terrific welters. But at that weight neither are has great has Sugar Ray Leonard. Not at welter, no way!
I agree I was not, nor am I today a big SRL phan, although I have gained an appreciation for him....I would say in my lifetime Duran lands in front of SRL as the best I have lived through!
Let me correct that in my lifetime SRL is likely the best WW I have seen, although I rate Duran higher P4P
