    i can fully understand why holmes sometimes comes out with strange thing like this , the average man walking down the street at least knows of ali tyson etc , wheras many dont really know anything about holmes he doesnt get the credit he deserves imo and i can see why that may have frustrated him

    Exactly. People get all bent out of shape when their hero isn't a perfect human being. It's bull****. We probably wouldn't know about Larry Holmes, Miles Davis, Steve McQueen, etc if they were nice guys.

    Good point :good It still annoys me,though,when people slag Ali off for several shortcomings,but excuse others.

    just to note, i was making an observation in this thread, not a judgement. i find some of holmes' rants hilarious. he actually makes me laugh out loud!

    Patterson an egomaniac?:huh (Unless you don't consider Floyd truly great. But the man was on top in 1956, and defeated Bonavena in 1972. I think he still would have been a top five heavyweight had he continued into 1973.)

    i just don't like him. i want to and it doesn't detract one iota from his brilliance as a boxer but he's whiney as **** and doesn't give due to fighters EXCEPT those like cooney who boost his own status

    There are a few exceptions, it goes without saying, but the majority of truly great fighters are egomaniacs from what I've seen. They are winners, and believe deep down in their heart that they can beat any man on their best night. Some fighters voice it, others don't.

    Is that the case though?

    Holmes is not going to win any charm contests, but if you stack his personal conduct up against other great fighters, he would likley come out of it better than most of them.

    Just an observation.
