Tyson looks vicious here. He's aggressive in walking Golota down but he seems calculating and not nearly as wild as in other fights of his post prison. Would have been awesome to see this Tyson fight Lewis or even contenders like Mercer and Tua.
Thats because Tyson had a real trainer in his corner. He was at his most consistent schedule leading up to this fight. Although he was somewhat active, I heard he ran on the treadmill for most of the training camp for this fight and didnt put a lot of work in the boxing gym. He should have fought Lewis within 4 months of facing Golota and retained Brooks and he probably would have regained the title.
I think this Tyson would've gave Lewis 5 rounds of hell, instead of just 1 round of hell like the shot zombie in 2002 could manage. What would be interesting, is if Tyson (Golota vintage) forced a bomb-filled brawl out of it, then i would expect Lewis to be tired after round 5*, just like this Tyson, which would make the remaining rounds very interesting. *I guess this due to Lennox's fatigue in round 5 of the Briggs slugfest. I know Briggs was gassed in round 4, but that's Briggs for you. Watching Tyson-Golota again, i'm impressed with Mike from a technical perspective, Brooks had done some nice work with him, in terms of headmovement, side-stepping footwork & jabbing. I really wish Golota hadn't quit, this could've been a truly great fight. Imagine what Brooks wonders could've achieved if he'd got with Tyson in '95 after prison, when he was younger & faster...
What do you guys think about a millenium slugfest between Tyson (Golota vintage) vs. Rahman (Sanders vintage)? I reckon there would be some brutal exchanges of bombs, but Tyson would control most of the action, make Rahman miss often with headmovement & side-stepping, counter him hard, plus set up some nice bombs with his jab. Tyson KO4 Rahman. tyson looked slow as fuk against golota.........now post tyson/ruddock1....and u will see a much faster tyson.....much/much faster:good
Tyson looked shot after unloading his first hail-mary, then again Golata's swan-like flailing would have done that anyone that night
Yeah he was relatively slow here, expecially compared with pre-prison versions. Mike was much slower against Botha though. Anyway he was still faster than most Heavys against Golota.
Tyson would have killed Rahman, he was tailormade for any version of Tyson. Bad defense, suspect chin and slow.
Yes any version of (non-shot) Tyson would brutally KO Rahman, i just think it would be an exciting (abeit one-sided) slugfest early, before the hugging begins. Ultimately he would be too slow to get his punches off like Bonecrusher was, & be forced to clinch frequently.
Great single-video version: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfGBsU-psrY&[/ame] I recommend double-clicking, & watching on expanded picture size, on 480p for best viewing.
This was Tysons last hurah at elite level. Even so, people who judge this era only on boxrec profiles, will see this as a great win.
