There is a world of difference between theoreticaly being favoured over any of the fighters that Louis beat individualy, and actualy putting the feat together over a twelve year period.

There is a reason why nobody else has ever done it.

old foreman would have been the best bet for standing and trading with tyson. to slug it out with someone like tyson, you need the combination of chin and power - old foreman had this. old foreman would have had a better shot than his younger counterpart because of his more compact punches. i also agree with whoever said holyfield. also bowe.

crazy that all of those fights could have happened in the early nineties...

I'd say he was. A ton of people derided charles, walcott, and even the rock to an extent after Louis left. It's actually a lot like the 30's after Dempsey or 00's after Lewis... The public wanted an explosive, dynamic champion and they didn't get one. Louis was definitely appreciated in his prime as a fighter. Way more than his successors.

he was appreciated, but these days he's a lock for the top two on all-time heavyweight lists. this is a relatively recent phenomenon. in the fifties and sixties he certainly wasn't held in that regard.

he certainly was. that was the turning point, twenty years or so after he retired. let's see where tyson is ranked in 2025.

Foreman had the power and the violence to win a shootout, yes.

Dempsey had the power, but not really anything else. Tyson knocks him out in a couple rounds if Jack comes in to go to war.

Tua had a punchers chance, magnified by the his underrated handspeed and great chin. I think he comes up second best in a brawl, though.

Toe to toe, Joe Louis doesnt make it out of the first. Joe could beat Mike, but he needed to be WAY smarter than the do it punch for punch.

Rocky Marciano had a small punchers chance, but really, his rugged style mixed with Tysons like ice does with hot iron rod. Tyson KO 2 if Rocky came out slugging.

Frazier could do it, because he's the only heavyweight I can think of who had the head movement in close to hit Tyson AND make him miss the machine gun combinations he'd throw back. I'd favor Mike in a fast paced war, but not by much.

Liston had the firepower to do it, much like Foreman, and like Foreman, he was good under fire in a shootout.

Foreman and Liston are the only two I'd FAVOR to win a fight like this. I think others could do well, have moments, and maybe even pull on upset, but in that type of fight, those are the only two fights where my money wouldn't be going on Tyson at the Palace in Vegas.

I don't know about that. I think Tyson could possibly survive a slugfest with Dempsey for a time.

Then again, he never faced Liston, Foreman, Lewia nor Frazier

Ike Ibeabuchi could stand in front of peak Tyson and trade with him. I say this only because he's one guy who stood toe-to-toe with prime Tua and was never so much as wobbled.

You realise your argument became null and void the second you typed in the word "Braddock" among Louis's better wins, right? All you've really done here is shown a complete ignorance of Louis's opposition. I suppose Schmeling was just that Nazi guy who got lucky in the first fight against a green Louis, eh?

  12. Tyson had no prime or peak. Beating up fighters like Trevor Berbick and ***** Green in your prime doesnt mean you have a peak.

Holyfield, Foreman, Lyle, Tua, Ibeabuchi, Frazier, Chuvalo, or any other fighter who had balls and skill and didnt get intimidated by a 5 foot tall midget with a high voice could go toe to toe with Tyson.

I love watching Ibeabuchi but Tyson is way too precise. Tyson would be throwing much straighter and accurate shots than Tua was and I honestly wouldn't see Ike lasting more than seven rounds.

Good fight while it lasts but Tyson was just on another level. Don't forget that Tua had him hurt in the 11th round but couldn't finish him.
