Dwyer: I'd take Degale over Bute, Dirrell and Kessler

AA doesn't belong at SMW and he beat Froch? News to me!

I'm not overrating DeGale, I just think Dirrell is hyped beyond belief, I just don't see it.

Outside of Froch/Ward/Kessler/Bute I'd pick nobody over him, couple of more fights and who knows?

Like all fighters who make a name for themselves you can see something special in their early fights, I see it with DeGale.

Time will tell......

There's a difference between seeing something special in a fighter and thinking he'd the majority of the world's top 10 after less than 10 fights to his name. I really like Ismael Syllakh, but, even if he does have a win over Despaigne(which is better than DeGale's over Smith), I'd still highly doubt his chances against the likes of Erdei or Campillo. Likewise in that I rate Felix Diaz very highly as a prospect, but I dont think he'd beat any top 10 fighter at welter, great prospect, but that's all he is, much like DeGale.

 

Why are you doubtful of Ismayl against Erdei of all people?

 

Just doubting that he could beat anybody ranked near the top of the division at this early stage. I have no doubt that he will be better, but as of now I'd be unsure.

 

All boxers who go on to become hof's have something special even after only 10 fights.

Look at the bottom half of top 10 - Bika, Johnson, Andrade, AA and Steiglitz. None of those names strike fear into the heart now do they, tough fights sure but not a massive stretch to believe DeGale beats them all.

DeGale's already top 20, it won't be long till we find out if my judgement is complete gash.

I'm sure he'd beat Erdei. Too imposing.

Campillo is good though.

 

You don't fancy DeGale's chances against Froch but you expect him handily beat the guy who outboxed Froch. He didn't get the decision, that doesn't mean a thing. He beat Froch.

 

It was a close fight, not a robbery. Froch took the early rounds because he actually wanted to fight.

 

Most people sat near me that night had Froch winning clearly..... I thought it was close and wasn't surprised when a split decision was announced.

I've still to watch the fight on tape to score it again..... if the ref had taken a point away from Dirrell earlier (as he should have done) I'm certain Carl would have indeed lost.

 

Does DeGale box like Froch? Would he apply the same tactics against Dirrell as Froch did? No, moot point.

 

It was a close fight. Agree with you there, but Dirrell won. Wanting to fight doesn't mean ****. It only matters if a guy runs away and neither lands punches, then the aggressor is given the rounds. But if the guy on his bike is countering and landing more clean punches, he obviously wins the rounds.

Anyways, this has been discussed so much already so I won't derail the thread discussing it.

 

I just can't help but think if you swapped Froch's nationality with Dirrell's you wouldn't have that opinion.

I actually think Froch's style suits DeGale way more than Dirrell, who doesn't like to get involved.

I think Froch would be more problematic in the later rounds. He'd keep applying pressure and could possibly take it out of DeGale. Dirrell on the other hand based on the AA and Froch fights would be looking to survive late on rather than take the fight to DeGale. If it's a close fight with Dirrell DeGale would take the later rounds, different story with Froch.

Plus the fact Froch could khtfo out of him late, something I don't see Dirrell doing.
