Well intrestingly soccer is the most popular sport in the world and the fastest growing sport in the USA which makes the majority of the human race either prone to watching cement harden or this is just your humble opinion and you know what they say about them right? IMO, there are number of things working here. We have to distinguish between the casual sports fan and the boxing fan.

Because for an American, the heavyweight championship is our birthright. We can embrace a Chavez or Duran or Froch or Calzaghe because they're not heavyweights.

And when it comes to the big men, we can accept a Brit, a Canadian, even a Cuban or a Puerto Rican. Which brings me to my second point.

Whole generations of Americans have been raised to think that USSR was evil. Doesn't matter that Maskaev is a US citizen, that Liakhovich is from Belarus or that the Klits are Ukrainian, it doesn't even matter that they're white. As far as we're concern, they're Ruskies. If Haye whips one and Adamek whips the other, they'll be LOVED by the US sports fan.

Now the boxing fan is different. The casual sports fan doesn't know that Robinson was five-time middleweight champ or that Solis was an Olympic gold medalist. They don't even know the difference between a close decision and a robbery.

This also applies to MMA. You think an average watcher know the difference between Muay Thai and Savate? I watch MMA because I like combat athletics. If it's on, I'll watch any kind. But for me, boxing comes first.

Some now will tell you that they like MMA more than boxing, but they also like drag racing and demolition derbies more than they do the Indy 500 or the Monaco Grand Prix.

Finally as far as soccer vs NFL goes; I don't like soccer, but that's because I don't like any team sports.

You don't get someone hooked with good fights. You need a different strategy.

You begin with the short, but sweet. Start off with Thunder-Grimsley, then Tua-Ruiz, then Jones-Griffin, then Meza-Garza, then Powell-Bundrage, then Mancini-Frias. Feel free to compare those to Tyson-Seldon and Vitali-Solis for your pal.

Next you can work your way up to brawls like Stewart-Sellars, Hamed-Kelley, Moorer-Cooper, Hagler-Hearns and Foreman-Lyle.

If it's working, at this point, you showcase one or two blood & guts warriors. I suggest Matthew Saad Muhammad or Bobby Chacon.

If not, then it's time to nuclear with Corrales-Castillo 1, followed by the Gatti-Ward trilogy.

Finally, showcase the rivalries...Barrera-Morales, Vaquez-Marquez, Casamayor-Corrales, Leonard-Hearns and finish off with Ali-Frazier.

If they're still around, you can then go to the "good" fights with "decent" entertainment value.
