He would've been able to make some noise and would've def been a champion as long as he could take that next step to the pro game. If he made the journey to the US and had the right people looking out for him, and the right trainer, I think we would be talking about him on these boards more.

I saw his 2004 Olympic win oven Khan.

Typical Olympic scoring of land enough scoring blows to win the fight...

and only read that he lost to Khan in rematch..

Whats the real story?? Did he actually lose? Is it a confirmed fix??? How did people figure it out? Is it obvious he let Khan win??? Did he actually get paid for losing??
    Anyone have any solid info?

They win their first Gold at a very young age, but do to the regime they stay too long in the amateur, is not like they start their careers at 28 years old beating up on 17-18 years old kids, they were 16 and 18 once,

Their fight at the olympics was very close. Kindelan just managed to build a big lead in 1 of the rounds but 3/4 rounds were very close.

Like any other Cuban from the past 50+ years we will never know, we only know the ones that had defected and stay true to their craft, Casamayor (he was a little old to turn pro), Gomez (he was or is in the wild side for most of his career) Hurtado, Gamboa, JP Hernandez, Lara, Acosta, Garcia, Johnson, Franco etc.. others like Gonzalez, Garbey, the Ledons brothers (too old), Castillo's brothers (they never were starts back in Cuba) got lazy and never accomplish anything, but if history serve us right long before Castro we did have amazing fighters, in a era that had only 6 or 7 weight class we had Champs like Kid Chocolate, Kid Gavilan, Luis m Rodriguez, Benny Kid Paret, Jose Legra, Ultiminio Ramos, Jose Napole etc.. and standouts like Black Bill, Kid Tunero, Florentino Fernandez, Niño Valdes (he was the #1 HW contender for a few years and Marciano never gave him a chance, he drop Rocky in sparring session and they threw him out), so I'll say that Kindelan if wasn't for the regime he would had join the professional rank at an early age, just like Savon, Stevenson, Aldama (he KO the body snatcher mcallum twice and won three or four fights again him) and many others, the Island have a very rich sport history dating back to the first Latin Olympic gold medalist in 1900 in fencing, Ramon Fonst and also the first none American in the Major Leagues Esteban Bellan in 1871, of course he was the first player from Latin America, and Jose R. Capablanca the only chess World Champion from Latin America, as you can see we do have history how well he would have done, it was up to him, talent he did had.

He would have beaten everyone in a single round, after all he is Cuban.

    Whoops! Sorry. wrong thread...

Please, never again put Mario Kindelán and Diosbelys Hurtado in the same sentence unless it's to state how incredibly superior Kindelán was to Hurtado.

He lost, but it was very clear that Kindelan was not giving 100%. Kindelan did lose...on purpose. It's as close to a confirmed fix as you can get. Yes. Almost certainly.

The solid information is in the build up, and in the actual bout. Khan was being hyped up after the Olympics, he had just signed with Warren. Warren would not let him take that fight with Kindelan in his last amateur bout if there was a chance of him losing. Warren had just recently struck a deal with ITV to bring back boxing to terrestrial tv, Khan (if I remember rightly) was one of the first bouts back on ITV. There was literally no chance of him losing. If he had lost, the hype would have been dented.

It was not very close. It was a competitive bout, but Kindelan was clearly the better/greater. He had previously beaten Khan on 1 occasion (or more) before that bout. Of course the Final was going to bring the best out in Khan, but it still wasn't enough.

Kindelan trained in my gym before the Olympics, the guy was actual class. He was the best amateur boxer I had seen live. The Kindelan that fought against Khan before Khan turned pro was not giving 100%. Kindelan giving his all beats Khan 9/10...and that 10th time, Khan would have to be assisted by the judges. Like I said, different class...even though Khan was a very good amateur.
