Prime Mike Tyson would have cleaned out the current heavyweight division in 2 years.

Spot on, only a fool thinks Tyson walks through Vitali. Tyson would be favourite but a Vitali win wouldn't surprise me at all.

 

He may well lose to a prime Vitali, very close fight. He would also have real trouble against Wlad if he didn't speed blitz him in the first 4 rounds. He would have his way with everybody else around at the moment.

Tyson is highly overrated but no fighter is more overrated than Marciano or Pac.

Seriously who did Tyson beat in his career who you could consider world class and still in their primes? Nobody. When ever he stepped aways from Don King controlled fighters he lost. When ever he faced somebody with skill who punched back he lost.

The scene is a lot better now than it was in 86. People moan because the Klits don't have competition but that's because they are dominant. There wasn't any dominant HW's in 86. You had a fading Holmes and fat guys like Tubbs and Witherspoon who couldn't dominate anything, and then there was Berbick, Thomas and Spinks... none of these dudes were a serious threat to Tyson or the post Buster Douglas era that followed, so we had Holyfield, Bowe and then Lewis. We even had James Toney and 45 y/o Foreman as HW champs FFS.

 

Sometimes you just watch someone, and you know you're watching someone special.
Anyone who downplays a person becoming the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, let alone the youngest ever, just doesn't know boxing.

Tyson would hqave a chance against Wlad because of his suspect chin but Viatli has a very good chin if not a great chin. If Buster Douglas could whip Tyson like he did then both guys have a chance against Tyson. Would definetly favor Vitali against Tyson. You could make a case for Tyson being the favorite against Wlad though.

 

Tyson had trouble against guys that could move lateral good or back him up. Tyson wasn't a great fighter when fighting backwards. That's how Holyfield and Douglas were able to beat him. People thought that Holyfield was crazy when he talked about getting Tyson to not rush up on him. But that's exactly what he did.

 

the more knowledgable fans know that Tyson was different when he became a King fighter in 88, became more of a head-hunter while abandoning many useful tools, especially his stellar jab. hence Tyson being prime pre-Don King era.
Not making excuses, that's just what happened.
When discussing Prime Tyson, leave out Douglas and post-prison Tyson.

 

Yep, prime Tyson was 1 of the most powerful forces in boxing history, no doubt... he`d be too much for 95% of HWs that ever lived.

 

Was it in 1989 that he dumped Rooney? I remember that my coach and I were talking that he might lose after the Bruno fight. But even before then he still had problems with guys that gave him angles. Jose Ribalta and James Tillis gave him some fits. Tucker gave him a tough first five rounds but went pretty much into survival mode after that. Looking at Holmes though he was old and nearly on a year and a half layoff before fighting Tyson.
