The thing is that the Minimumweight division is not so competitive right now IMO. But Ioka said he want to win world titles in four different weight classes after the fight.
I want him to go back to his original weight class, which is the light flyweight, and fight such fighters as Roman Gonzalez or Giovanni Segura.

BTW, Ioka's fight ended in such a short time, the Japanese TV station aired the highlight of Yoko Gushiken, who is one of the greatest boxers in Japan. That stole the show.

Yoko Gushiken was more like Japanese(small) version of Mike Tyson.
    He was also Ryukyuan(Okinawan) boxer.

And I wouldnt be surprised if Nashiro recaptures another title sometime this year or the next. Maybe even Naito. Also I've got a feeling this year will be a big year for Tomoki Kameda and Satoshi Hosono!

I love the Japanese Boxing model, it is definitely the best in the world. The only downer is that their champions don't travel abroad, their fighters could be a bit more active and their title opponents can be a bit poor at times. You can hardly blame them for not travelling abroad though, they make good money fighting at home and the American Promoters and Television Producers don't want to pay good money to bring in a Japanese Champion.

How popular is Boxing in Japan at the moment? I know the Naito-Kameda fight did phenomenal viewing figure.

Alvarez is going to make a lot of money off this sport before it's all said and done.

In that sense at least, they are probably right to call him the "next DLH".

I don't really know anything about Tomoki's opponent but he seems to lose to anyone halfway decent (and has a very padded win column). :think

Tomoki dominated Meraz over 12 and won the NABF BW belt by the scores of 119-109 x 2 and 119-110.

April 8 triple-header moves to Kobe, card still on despite natural disaster

Due to the 9.0 earthquake, tsunami and a series of other issues that hit Japan recently including lack of electricity in the Tokyo region, the April 8 big boxing triple-header featuring Hasegawa vs. Gonzalez, Nishioka vs. Munoz and Ao vs. Gutierrez is being moved to Kobe.

Huge respect for the organizers to go through with the event in such demanding and difficult times, boxing as other forms of sport can lift a nation that is devastated by such terrible events. This is a superb show with Hasegawa-Gonzalez being a once great BW idea now being fought at FW. I only wish all participants to go through camp as positive as possible under the circumstances and give the fans and the nation something to cheer for.

    GO JAPAN!!!

I was really looking forward to this card and figured it would be postponed due to the unfortunate events that have taken place over there.Good to hear they will fight on despite the tragedy, this just makes me an even bigger fan of Japanese boxing than I was before.
