I wouldnt mind him fighting cotto clottey or margarito honestly, I would because of his inactivity whcih is why he need sto step up right away otherwise I dont care, those 3 guys are better then that spadafora guy. I just want to see him in good fights or retire.
Can't see it. The only way this fight makes sense for PBF is not truly as a warm-up for Pacquiao but as a way to try to force Pacquiao to fight him by PBF putting himself back in the scene. That is, trying to increase the public's appetite for the fight by having an on-the-shelf Mayweather get back in action after Pac fights Mosley and presumably before Pacquiao decides who he will face after Mosley. Two problems with this: 1. Arum Doesn't Care. In case people have missed it, Arum is busy lining up Marquez III for Pac's next fight. That appears to be the fight Manny will take for November 2011 (or whenever he fights later this year), should he get past Mosley. 2. Enormous Downside Potential For Mayweather. Now, PBF does have a hardcore base that will pay to watch his fights, however boring they may be. And this fight could be incredibly boring. But does the casual fan care about this fight? No. Can Spaddy be sold as a good opponent, given his unbeaten record? Maybe, but there's not a lot of glamor here. The nightmare scenario for Mayweather with a Spaddy match-up is that this fight does poor numbers AND Pacquiao still doesn't fight him in November. Then, Mayweather's status as a draw suffers and he doesn't get Pacquiao. So, the gambit will have been for nothing. On the other hand, if the Pacquiao bout doesn't happen soon, it's probably never going to happen. And Mayweather's career isn't going to go on forever, so he may be willing to roll the dice here. This feels like a desperation move by Team Mayweather. They know Pacquiao has the leverage with the public and this would be an attempt to regain some of that positioning. It's risky, but given the spot Floyd's in right now (legal troubles; lawsuit going forward with Pac; Pac #1 in public's mind; PBF hasn't fought in nearly a year and is fading in the public's mind; PBF is aging), this might be his best, last option to realistically attempt to get the Pac fight.
I have some very low standards for PPV and ive paid for every Mayweather PPV...but yeah, they would need an incredible undercard and even then I still wouldn't pay because the fight is a farce. I understand having a tune-up, it's part of the sport. But $60 is too much for that sort of fight. I'd rather pay for Maidana-Morales.
You guys are looking at this wrong. Spadafora is a tune-up of course, but that means he's fighting Pacquiao. So wouldn't you rather Floyd fight Paul and Pacquiao instead of just fight Pacquiao in November or not fight period. This shouldn't be a ppv fight and everybody including Floyd need to not look at this fight as an event, but just part of the Pacquiao fight
Let me make one caveat to my previous post: This fight probably COULD work if it were done in Africa. In that sense, Spaddy is irrelevant as the opponent and "Mayweather To Africa" is the real attraction, with the accompanying build-up. It's still a stretch, IMO, but I could see that scenario working. Then, even if Mayweather doesn't end up with the Pacquiao fight in 2011 (and I doubt he will given where Arum seems to be leaning), the Spaddy bout could still be "pulled-off" as its own entity. If this were to be held in the USA, though, I doubt it gets done.
Not really, I'm excited because I know it means he's fighting Pacquiao in November :happy. If this was supposed to be Floyd's once a year fight, then yeah I'd be pissed
if it meant he were fighting pacquiao, wouldn't we have heard something positive from Arum (other than "Floyd has priced himself out")?
