Never say never, I`ll be watching it too, win lose or draw, Morales has earned the right for his fans to believe 1 last time at least... even if he is a huge underdog.

Maidana will be facing a living legend, Im happy for him, he gets to meet (& perhaps beat) 1 of his idols... lucky ******* that he is ;)

It WAS Ray`s night, it certainly was not Roberto`s.... he made Duran do the 1 thing you would say he would never do in a million yrs, walk away mid-fight, thats as definitive a beating as you can get IMO.

Alot of people do rate Langford right up there (some of the better posters actually) but a fair few dont. Greb and Robinson are locked the **** down up there and rightly so. Reaching know it alls and old whitey(there are many of both) rate Fitz right up there. Nobody can deny Armstrong his place. Stonehands and McGrain rate Charles and everybody follows their lead.

No matter who the poster, or what their bias though, they all manage to fit Duran up there at no.5. Over all the lists ive seen, i'd say he's locked at no.5 on here more than any of the above fighters are locked at any place above

    What the mother ****?

I watched both fights live in 1980 on PPV as they occurred. All this **** that SRL was green or still a rookie is / was horse****. It was more of a case that Duran was just more seasoned and very well tuned for the initial fight in Canada... Leonard fought Duran's fight outta ego and anger towards Duran.... Come the rematch in New Orleans, regardless of Duran's physical and mental preparation, Leonard had totally changed his approach and style and boxed a fight in which Duran could never win....
    :bbb
SO! Even if Duran was a ready 145 pounds down in New Orleans, he wasn't gonna win a 15 rd. decision over a fleet-footed, jiving and highly motivated SRL in a "Boxing" match.... Leonard has / had the skills, speed and edge all the way when he realized what he needed to do to beat Duran in the ring...
    :deal

Get the **** outta here, Goat 15....

Yes... THIS FORUM... everywhere else on earth those wins are recognized as outstanding wins by a great fighter over other great fighters.

Well, not as definitive a beating as actually giving him a beating rather than taunting him whilst doing very little clean, effective offensive work... :nut

so you're saying that greb, robinson, armstrong and charles are up there, but duran tends to get the fifth spot more regularly than langford? have definitely seen at least those five regularly above duran, but fair enough, i guess i am new (and soon to be gone!)

I remember KO magaine listing the top-50 ATG fighters in a row. The issue was from the early to middle 80s and the top-5 was:

    1. Robinson
    2. Ali
    3. Pep
    4. Louis
    5. Duran

I thought my post on this thread would be the best one on it:

But this one is even better IMO:

Whereas I went for humour, Dan Jamson went for just clear, simple, undeniable truth, the kind of truth that shines through and shames all the agenda-based bollocks that gets spoken on this topic.

    Sir, I salute you. :happy

Probably because he doesnt let commentators influence his scoring of a fight he has seen (as I have) more than any other fight, this was the definition of a close war, at least 8 rds were razor thin pick em rds.

Id say no way MAB won fight 2 but some would disagree & say that was closer than I saw it so to each their own at the end of the day.

I will say that a TKO 15 over Benitez in '79 and a spring '80 KO 4 over Davey Green were damn good warm-up fights for SRL to prepare for Duran in the summer of '80 up in Canada... Leonard's career was on fire after he left Green in a coma in ring center on national TV...

Leonard had the tools and skills to beat Duran at any time in 1980, but mentally he was hellbent on knocking Duran out in Canada and strayed from a smarter, more precise game plan... That flaw was corrected down in New Orleans...

    That's it. 'Nuff said..

Leonard was obviously a little sharper in the rematch.

It should be noted Leonard was buzzed in the second round of fight 1 and he said he barely knew where he was for the next few rounds
