I thought about that especially considering how he fought McCllen ..

i think you'll find it was a green calzaghe who fought a seasoned vet in eubank. benn would be wiped out by calz prime for prime. it would be an easy fight for him. i don't see benn doing anything other than getting bust up and stopped in about five rounds.

As Benn himself admits openly - much to his credit - a prime Calzaghe matches up very well with Nigel stylistically. I don't think Benn would be stopped by Joe in 5 rounds, especially as Benn was a superior boxer at 168 to the one-dimensional puncher that he was at 160. I do however think Joe wins a clear UD over Nigel based on hand speed and workrate.

This pains me to say, as I do not like Slappy Joe at all. But, I think he slaps and moves well enough to finish the fight on his feet and win a fairly close decision.

I would really like to watch that fight. Would that have been the best victory on Calzaghe's resume?

Possibly, though I still think the Hopkins victory is Joe's best as Hopkins had superior ring generalship and accomplishments to Benn.

For what it's worth I had Joe winning the Hopkins fight by a single point. Though I'll never watch that fight again - too boring and ugly - I maintain Joe did enough to win.

Have some discounted Benn's power ? Who did Joe fight that was a big of a puncher as the dark destroyer?

If Old Jones and Old Hopkins could have dropped Joe at this stage I think Benn rocks him ..Though a prime Calzaghe is no slouch ..

Benn wasn't the 'Destroyer' for nothing :yep

Prime Benn v prime Slappy would have been painful watching for the Welsh. Benns win over prime McClellan is better than anything Slappy ever did in his entire pathetic career, Benn would just beat him up.

Well Benn to me was kind of inconsistant.. He had some tough fights with guys he shouldnt have..... But he had some great wins and wars with Eubank... The Benn that beat Mccellan i think handles Calzaghe but more times than not i think Calzaghe beats him... People call joe Calslappy and at LH he was... but he was pretty decent puncher at SM... Think he outboxes and outhustles Benn ... BUt on Benns best night he probably stops Calzaghe.

Hard to see this one going beyond 3-4 rounds at most.... and I see Calzaghe coming out on top in a brawlfest thrill. Calzaghe KO.

Super Joe, would beat him on points or possibly even stop him late.

:patsch the same benn that was knocked out by a jab from watson ?

the same benn that had a struggle with dewitt ?

    that benn ?

go away kid, you're talking out your arse. calz stops the made for order and wide punching benn in about 5 rounds. there's no doubt in my mind what so ever.

I appreciate that it's difficult analysing a fantasy matchup between such revered ATG brits, but Benn vs Calzaghe discussions sure do produce a low percentage of level headed responses.
