    Just watched Rosi vs Alvarez.

A great fight, thanks for uploading it sweet.

I think i would agree Alvarez got the better of it over the ten and he was certainly hard done by on the official cards.Don't know if i would say he was outright robbed as there were a lot of close, hard fought rounds and no officially counted knockdowns.I didn't score it myself, though it certainly seemed the type of bout that would be tough score in attendance at the first time of asking.Felt like a 6-4'sh Alvarez win on first viewing anyway.

Alvarez impressed me, i like his style, especially the way he could get under good quality punches at mid-range.Very good defensively, fine footwork and the right hand under the chin, left-hand dominant offensive style with punches often brought slightly up(despite the high guard) after little dipping feints was quite Locche-like at times.Cuffing less impressive right, but it did seem more naturally thrown to the body, including some nice right uppercuts.

I actually thought he did at least as well in the first half of the fight, as he did late on.Got hit with a few big shots including what seemed a legit knockdown, but he outlanded and outjabbed Rosi and was controlling exchanges with his footwork quite well.Rosi flagged physically late on when Alvarez started walking in and trading, but he was hitting him a lot more circa 7th to 9th.Things evened out offensively imo.

It looked to me like Alvarez either felt or was instructed he needed to be more aggressive to steal it.

Rosi looked slow early and was maybe starting to feel his age a bit, but still a very good classy fighter himself.Definitely one of the better Italians.

I'm exactly the same. Don;t worry about it.

We must be the two different extremes of scoring.

Cheers for watching it, I knew you'd like Alvarez.

I hear what you're saying about how Alvarez was doing better early and then how it levelled out a bit. I agree that Alvarez did well early, but he wasn't throwing as much leather as he was later on, and hence my thought that he started off slowly. Also, it just seemed to me after the first few rounds that the much bigger and stronger Rosi would take over in the latter half, and it didn't really work out that way. I thought Alvarez had some dominant rounds late, but you're right that Rosi did his fair share of work there, especially in round 9.

Still, I thought Alvarez was outlanding him at a good clip and should have clearly taken the fight.

Would have loved to have seen his second fight with Locche.

Also agree with your thoughts about Rosi. Quite an underrated fighter that was perhaps starting to taper off here.

A lot of the better South American fighters even at the small weights had a real uphill mountain to climb circa 40s and 50s.America had things so locked down at the time and when these guys went up to try and breakthrough there it must have been immensely tough to get some favourable matchmaking...ie not end up having to fight the well rested hometown guy on 4 days notice etc, or four fights in a row in one month where you're discarded after one loss

I bet there's still a lot of really good fighters to unearth from that period(from outwith Amrica) who would have done better had more of the crosroads fights been just a bit more on their terms.

    Alexis Arguello vs Jim Watt

Not a terribly eventful fight, Alexis' brilliance was only shown in cameos as Jim Watt, the Lightweight champion, was extra-cautious and almost looked terrified. I didn't see the use in scoring the fight as I already knew it wasn't terribly competitive, but I thought Watt did enough to win around 3-4 rounds. Alexis would take some rounds off, and Watt seemed to grow in confidence the longer he stayed in there. A knockdown in round 8 was the showier punch courtesy of a lead left hook from Arguello. Great champion and admirable performance by Watt, who looked a mess at the end of 15.

Watt's performance against Arguello was garbage, especially compared to Mancini and Ramirez.

 Agreed. I said it was an admirable performance only because he allowed himself to take so much punishment without wilting. He didn't look for a way out or anything, he stayed in there despite being terrified. Sometimes he'd barely even extend his arms when throwing punches because he was so worried about what might come back from Arguello. You would have thought he'd have gone for it a little more...considering it was his title on the line. Nevermind.

He did prove beyond a shadow of a doubt he was a very durable lightweight, but it was as big a choke from a decent champion as i've seen.Terrible way to finish your career.

Yeah, he wasn't a young champion, about 33-34 by then.He picked up the title later in his career, when for a time it seemed he would plateau at Euro level.

His finest hour was probably his effort as a young pro against- a not particularly sharp looking- Buchanan about 6 years before he won a world belt.

It's not unusual for fighters to over-perform in domestic tussles, I 'spose.

Watched Myung-Woo Yuh vs. Mario Alberto De Marco I.

Please anyone let me know if you find a 15 round fight which has even close to the punch output displayed in this one. Absolutely ridiculous war.

Yuh won most of the rounds, but De Marco really made him earn it and probably threw 200+ punches every single round.

The more I watch of Yuh the more impressed I am with his all round abilities. Sure, he didn't like fighting cuties, but he had just about every other base well covered.
