I was in 8th grade and with my folks and neighbors all crowded in the same dining room when Duran quit in round 8 against Leonard. At the exact moment, nobody knew what the **** was happening. The next day at school, my P.E. teacher suspected the mafia told Duran to dive. The initial take was that "The Fix" was in... Then the bull**** about cramps came into play... Also, Duran said he was sick from making weight and drinking a gallon of orange juice with a huge steak the afternoon of the fight, etc... All excuses.....

Duran was prolly a tad drained at 147 in New Orleans and was bitter that Ray was jiving and making him look a fool to a certain degree...

After 7 rds. I had Ray up 4-2-1 or 68 to 66 over Duran... Duran was behind and also losing round 8 at the time he quit...

But he was in good enough fighting shape to compete and perhaps even win the fight had he extended himself and shown that little bit more heart. As I say, those 8 rounds were competitive, it wasn't as if Duran was losing all of the rounds clearly. Victory wasn't even out of the question had he stayed in there longer and tried to change his strategy, but he bailed. Quit. Ray Leonard would have been skinned alive had he pulled that **** in Montreal. No question.

Yeah, because Duran isn't. Unless you live down a hole like the last days of Saddam Hussein, you see people whining on about 'No Mas' every other day on here.

    Shut it you talking ****:yep

You have'nt a clue as to what physical definition is, duran had wasted away most of his muscle mass, he was slow & sluggish & in know way did he had the rock hard tight & defined arms/shoulders & core. when i watched him train at the tropicana for the 3rd fight he never once took of his t-shirt & when i attended the weigh in i knew why.

He was dessicated, he sucked in his diaphram on the scales because he'd starved of all his muscle density to make weight. If he'd breathed out a pot belly would have flopped down & thats why he looked like a puffer fish on fight night. Same with New Orleans, any ****er can make weight by starving themselves or taking duiretics but the human body will always dispose of muscle density first.

There's plenty of pic's about from that 2nd fight that show leonard clipping Duran around the head when Duran is bent low & what sticks out is the multiple roles of loose skin around his stomach where the muscle has been wasted & no muscle definition to the top of his back or chest, he was just skin & water.

I spoke to Alexis Arguello after the 3rd fight in the Sands & asked him what the **** happended & he said Duran had never had an ounce of fighting muscle on him, He told us that when he gave Roberto a cuddle he could feel every bone in his upper body & he knew then that he was in trouble but that was the penalty that leonard imposed on duran, weigh in above 160 & you are fined $1MILLION an ounce.

You useless thick little know ****-all runt:lol:

It had nothing to do with what I was talking about. I've never once even came close to suggesting that Leonard fought Duran's fight and that's why he lost. You should be addressing the likes of MAG, not me.

    Good post, though.

Anyone think Duran looks especially slow here? I think he looks like a man who's in with someone faster than himself...and who wants it more.

Some additional material. It goes into detail about his condition before the fight and details regarding the "cramps" right before the final round

Here we go again. At 135,Duran beat Buchanan and DeJesus, who were both great-green Duran also beat Ernesto Marcel at 130.He didn't beat another great because the 2nd Leonard fight was the last time he fought at welter,12 pounds above his prime, natural weight and 28 pounds above his debut weight, after his 70th fight and after 30 years of age.No excuses only facts. And yet you continue to use the excuse that Leonard fought "Duran's fight" when Duran beat him, even though he fought flatfooted the majority of his career-including the manner in which he ko'd Tommy Hearns, because Hearns was outboxing Leonard the majority of the fight while Leonard was utilizing "Leonard's fighting style".Oh ****,I forgot.Leonard utilized the same flatfooted tactics against Benitez, whom Leonard ko'd BEFORE he fought Duran while you usually claim Leonard was green before the 1st Duran fight.

Non-comparable. Hoya's physical issues were on show in the ring, as he was seemingly incapable of throwing a punch with conviction as early as round 3. Everything looked wrong. Duran, on the other hand, was actually winning rounds against Leonard in the rematch, and was in touching distance on the scorecards after 8 rounds of action. I don't consider the two comparable, really.

"I'm in better condition for this fight than I was in the first fight" - Roberto Duran

He still maintained this stance even after the fight, whereas Hoya had changed his tune.

Not disagreeing with you at all, but merely would like to point out whenever it is necessarily relevant, that De La Hoya is a ****ing snake and will say anything
