There's little to suggest Hopkins wasn't at his peak, he was 28 and wouldn't lose again until Taylor, Jones schooled him with 1 hand and we all know Hopkins wanted no part of a rematch tells its own story, hell Hopkins didnt even fancy it in 2008. Toney was arguably P4P no1 at the time Jones fought him

MAB was near prime but Morales was fresh off getting schooled by Raheem. I had Marquez beating Pac twice. None of those ever became as highly rated as Toney was at the time Jones fought him. I'm sure the 'weight drained' excuse will come up but Toney was always a bit draiend 160-168 and every fighter had an excuse

True at the time they wre both considered the best pfp ( i believe Chavez -Whittaker were already on the slide).. But you know damn well Toney was flat in that fight he sure didnt get the version that dominated Barkley and kod Williams.. WHat you said about Hopkins is incorrect a couple years after losing to Jones he drew with unheralded Segundo Mercardo a fighter kod later... A peak Hopkins would not have drew or had his full with mercardo.... And Raheem beat Morales after he fought Pac the first time.. The Morales of the 2nd and 3rd fight were faded versions of the morales in the first fight.. THat was basically his last hurrah as a pfp top elite fighter.

I agree marquez should have won those fights but they were very close. Jones win over Toney was almost as meaningless as Pacs over Delahoya. As both Toney and ODLH had nothing in them... Although i think ODLH was worst off.............

Now that is ridiculous, I have to say that.

The Toney win is by far Jones best win. Maybe Toney didn't come at his best but he was still undefeated fighting at Super Middleweight where he was still in good shape and not fat at all. Far, far, far superior to Pac's win over Oscar.

Which is why I called it "a title" and not "the heavyweight championship of the world".

 True i was exaggerating it was a little bit of Jones just being the better man and Toney not being 100%.. Toney did look flat but even a Toney at 100% still loses.

Actually Toney looked pretty muscular and ingood shape at cruiser although those muscles came pretty quick i think that has something to do with steroids.

I can say and pretty much speak for mostly everyone that Roy Jones victory over Toney is Top 5 greatest win of the 90's.

The only wins I think are a little greater are...

    1. Buster Douglas KO Mike Tyson
    2. Thomas Hearns UD Virgil Hill
    3. Pernell Whitaker defeating Julio Cesar Chavez :yep

    4. and 5. would be between Roy Jones UD James Toney OR Riddick Bowe UD Evander Holyfield

Hagler, Sugar Ray and Sweet Pea were better in my opinion.

He's there with Mayweather and Pacman in my opinion.

He just didnt fight everyone he needed to.

I've just been watching a 20 year old Barrera fighting Eddie Cook back in 1994 ...

Roy Jones was on as a special guest commentator, This being a few weeks after he beat Lights Out Toney and was talking about fighting anywhere between 160lbs-175lbs, to that one of the co-comentators compared Jones to Sugar Ray Robinson. Roy thanked him for his kind comparison an said Robinson was one of the greatest fighters of all time, then went onto say....

Of all the fighters he had seen fighting live, his favourite fighter was Salvador Sanchez, an that he styled himself on Sal.

Does anyone see any of Roy Jones in any of Salvador Sanchez performances? If so what Sal fight would they recommend for this?

    They fought absolutely nothing alike.
