what's stupid are people who refuse to open up their mind and give way to new ideas. it's a good feeling that some scientists are putting great efforts to solve some great sport mysteries yet you see some random johns saying it's stupid. it's pretty annoying that some idiots are pretty vocal about them being idiots.
Pacquiao is taking PEDs that cause his wrists, fists and skull to increase in mass but add no muscle or fat to his body?
Wrist size has a positive corelation to the skeletal frame. That means bigger wrist bigger skeletal frame. If you have a bigger skeletal frame, your strikes will care more power. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/imagepages/17182.htm
If you think Pac is a cheat because of his physical appearance and performance, you must think that Martinez is on drugs too: He has a big head, became extremely buff while still managing to maintain his speed, increased his power and on top of that he's 36 years old... he a cheat too?
No way mosley the bigger puncher. He fought cotto and margarito in their primes and even though he doesnt have his speed or stamina to compete witj Pacman, Manny better be very wary of Shanes power, even a faded Mosley.
Can we just agree they are the two biggest punchers at WW? With an honorable mention to Randall Bailey?
Fist or wrist size have the most miniscule effect in punching power as do calves or biceps. Nonito has tiny hands and doesnt have the huge calves associated with filipinos yet hes a devastating puncher.
Devastating power? You gotta remember he's 5'6 and fighting at 118. He is physically stronger than the guys in his division.
:admin Variation is a certainty in everything, so again, it is no big surprise that some fighters are above average while some are below average. Where things get interesting is in the extreme cases, and among these fighters there is no bigger extreme than Pacquiao. The man has 8in wrists, which is higher than the wrist average for heavyweights. When you consider he is only 66.5in tall (just over the superfeatherweight avg height) it feels even more impressive. While I was not thinking of this at the start of this little project, something caught my eye as I looked at the data. One of the things that has characterized Pacquiao during the past two or three years is his ability to punch extremely hard for someone his size against seemingly bigger foes. Well, two fighters among those I checked who also were recognized for their power and who also have 8in wrists with much smaller height than their wrist size would suggest are Joe Louis, 74in height, 8in wrists (should be 7.45in) and Mike Tyson, 71.5in height, 8in wrists (should be 7.23in). I'm assuming it is not necessary to highlight that both Louis and Tyson fought at the heavyweight class.
Bigger or smaller bone structures are irrelevant if you have poor technique. Ofcourse the heavier bone density you have, the stronger your punch. But if you dont know how to punch the proper way, you'd probably break your wrist no matter how thick they are.
